What about phone numbers?

Whats this im seeing about phone numbers not being allowed to be given out? Why did i have a seller call me unexpectedly just two days ago if thats the case? Also happened another time with someone i had done no business with yet and was just negotiating a bulk deal.. suddenly my phone was ringing at 2 am, was very disturbing at the time…

Make my day…

Where did you see the phone number isnt allowed to give out?

I have never seen that and I know eBay does give the phone number to seller on items purchased.

I have never and will never call a buyer but I guess some people do.

What about phone numbers?

Buyer's phone number always appears on my seller order form.

The person with which you had done no business may / may have gotten your number from a seller with whom you had done business.

FWIW, I would never, ever call a buyer, even though eBay deems it appropriate under certain circumstances (or the number would not be visible to the seller).

@eastwoodtradeshop

Sounds like a potential scam to me.  Be careful.  They're everywhere.

What about phone numbers?

Sellers have access to your contact information when you have been in a transaction with them, your address and phone number are provided in the order details.
Apparently your seller isn't aware of what time zone you are in.

What about phone numbers?

After 1000's of transactions, I called a buyer for the 1st time last week.  The auction was unpaid after 5 days and the account hadn't been used in a year, with only 2 transactions even before that.  It seemed a little hinky; I googled the buyer who had a professional online presence so I left a message in case there was an account takeover.

Turned out the buyer had forgotten and been travelling and was appreciative I called.

Are you saying a seller that you purchased from called you (not at 2am) and you had a separate call (2am) from someone that you did not have business with?

What did the seller (who you purchased from) want or relay to you within the conversation? (details)

From what you are describing, 1 call came in from someone you had business with (seller) and another that randomly called you at 2am that you had no business with. (could be scam caller a ckimodog has mentioned)

Both can be annoying but 1 is allowed (sellers calling) on Ebay and the other is not. (working deal outside of Ebay)

Are you trying to give out your phone number as a seller? Asking because you posted this on the selling forum. If you want your phone number on all of your eBay listings you can apply that setting within your communications with buyers account settings page.

What about phone numbers?

Actually I don’t want my phone number given out at all. I posted in selling as that’s my focus currently though have been buying & selling over a decade now. Was just curious why I’m getting called by sellers when the messaging system  flags my messages all the time accusing me of “giving out personal information” when I’m not. However there have been times where i included my phone number in  a message for a specific purpose, like hey need anything reach me at this number which has also been flagged. Leaves me wondering, if phone number is a problem, why do people have my phone  number?

Sellers are provided buyer's real name, address and phone number. I assume buyers receive same about the seller.

What about phone numbers?

Any snd every time i have attenpted to give it out along with several times i had not attempted to give it out but the system flagged my message and gave me a warning anyway as if i had. Happened several times. When i asked ebay about it they literally said “….ok”

id like to know what the problem is if it isnt a problem? I think as adults we should be able to decide when to give out our numbers, then ig theyre going to allow it to begin with then why restrict any of it at all? I dont believe its to prevent scams thats everyones own responsibility

"Give it out..."  how?  In the eBay message system?  Yes, it will be flagged.

eBay's message system seems to be distinct and separate from the rest of eBay.

And its elsewhere on eBay -- seller hub, for example, and if you are a buyer, your main account page, which is where you provide your address, phone and other contact info when you sign up -- that that information is recorded.

In other words, there are legitimate places to see phone numbers -- when an order has been processed, for example.

And there are the places where phone numbers are forbidden, because exchanging them might prevent a sale and thus, eBay revenue.
