Need advice from the community.
Background:
- I'm not new to selling on ebay but I sell basically stuff like electronics when I decide to upgrade.
- In my 100+ transactions, I've never had an issue until now.
- Listed an electronic item that sold Thurs 9/7.
- My ad requested immediate payment via PayPal.
- Sent mulitple ebay mssgs to buyer (2 reviews only) seeking payment with no repsonse from buyer.
- I opened up a non payment claim (my first time ever doing this) on 9/9 & was told the UPI Assistant would be deployed 9/11.
- I tried relisting my item on 9/11 but system wouldn't let me.
- Befuddled - I listed the item as another item I had for sale.
Currently
- My newly listed item has multiple bids from highly reviewed veteran ebayers
- Then I woke up today & see that the original buyer has paid me & the UPI assistant has closed out the UPI.
What to do?
- The original buyer didn't answer any of my requests
- I don't want to cancel my current auction with <2 days to go & dissapoint bidders
- I want to refund original buyer & move on but system won't let me cancel order
- Have read too many cancel orders are a black ball on sellers. I have cancelled 2 times on this auction - 1 through a bidder's request & 1 because of a mistake with listing info.
- Afraid I will get bad marks from original buyer & ebay.
- What can I do?

With immediate payment, the item stays out for sale until the buyer pays. If someone comes along and snaps it up, too bad for the first guy. IPR (Immediate Payment Required) isnt something that you say in text, it is a setting you set in the listing form. You can make all the demands you want but just putting the words in your listing isnt how it works. Im thinking that you didnt set it up right.

OH and there would be NO UPI. The item doesnt sell until a payment is made so there is no chasing the buyer around for a payment.

You also have IPR on an AUCTION. IPR is for fixed price. You got the methods and processes confused. You will need to decide who is going to be disappointed - the bidders on the active auction or the previous buyer who only just now paid. You are going to get a hit from one of them.

I hope you don't keep doing this, because you could wake up one day to find out your account is permanently suspended.
You might want to check your seller dashboard for defects.
Wishing you all the best, OP. Again, sorry.

OP got CS to cancel the bidder who paid late, earning a defect in the process, sadly. So while we have advised cancelling the auction, it is now a moot point.

Ok..
You got the answer from the below posts also.
You can do as you want.. but your won't get far in the future.
I kindly recommend to you to download the mobile application (this is to know exactly when an item is sold or paid ), use mobile reminders for cases like this if you want to manually control them and never repeat mistakes in the future. Try to be more active and learn from this mistake to avoid it in the future.
We all did mistakes in the past (some are new members and some are veterans) and learned from them.
All those people advised you the same if iam not wrong.

OP, you have made multiple mistakes in the handling of this matter. You circumvented ebay rules so you could list an item before it was eligible and got yourself in trouble. Then you compounded the problem by cancelling the transaction with the paying customer, opening yourself up to negative feedback and a possible serious defect. You didnt know how to properly set up Immediate Payment Required and instead set forth unenforcable terms in your listing. I could go on but you catch my drift.
Then you come to the boards seeking help and when the sound advice you are given doesn't appeal to you. You clearly want to do what you want to do with no thought as to whether it is against the rules or unacceptable behavior. The posters here are fellow sellers who freely give of their time and knowledge, expecting nothing in return.
So i am dismayed by your insistence that you have done nothing wrong. I wish you well in your future endeavors.

The sytem tried to help you and you went around it by listing the item on your own.
You owe the 1st buyer the item.
You should cancer your auction ASAP and ship the item to the rightful buyer. . .
This is why I hate doing auctions., you get these buyers who literally hold you merchandise hostage despite the terms clearly spelled out . Often times, sellers can get a gut feel on the type of buyer they will have continued problems with down the road; some sellers like this "OP" do not want to take that risk. Some buyers need to understand, some sellers especially those who do not sell regularly will not put up with this nonsense and they will lose the item and be blocked.
I wish eBay would allow sellers to re-list immediately after a buyer has not paid within 2-3 days (in particular) when messages go unanswered, as far as I am concern, this buyer lost his right to make claim on the item when he did not honor the terms of the listing................but, I do see that eBay may see it differently; however that is something that needs to be changed. I would be very leary of a buyer who took 8 days to pay and failed to respond to my message(s). I would "Not" want this buyer to have my product in their possession and then be stressed in hopes everything thereafter goes well. Seesh!!!!!

You cannot use listing terms to get around ebay rules. Ebay says six days so that's how long a seller should take to file and close. It would be total anarchy if ebay let that happen. They don't want to shorten the time any more than it is already.
so the short answer is that sellers with short time windows (or patience) use the other listing methods not auctions.

It doesn't matter when the buyer pays, it only matters that the buyer pays before the UPI runs out.
As for the "my product", it's not yours after the buyer pays.
When Ebay started, it was seller was always right. The seller could require the money to reach him
within a few days. Then came Paypal, and the seller could require payment immediately. Then Ebay started shedding buyers like a pug sheds hair. Now sellers are required to act professionally, whether they like it or not.

Did you ever consider that there might have been a good reason the buyer did not respond to your emails or payment was delayed?
Believe it or not there have been two hurricanes that not only impacted those living in the immediate vicinity but their families in other areas. Then there are the thousands of volunteers that worked hard to gather supplies and even travel to the hurricane stricken areas.
Ignorance of how ebay's system operates (or doesn't operate) is no excuse. You made a mistake and should cancel the current listing and honor the original buyer's payment. Period.

You circumvented ebay rules so you could list an item before it was eligible and got yourself in trouble.
There is no rule that says an item cannot be relisted before the UID has run its time. Rules only come into play if the item sells a second time before the UID closes as unpaid and both buyers end up paying. Then the seller is on the hook for both buyers and could get a defect for cancelling one.
There are valid reasons for relisting before the UID case is closed. The seller may have more than one of the item. Or the seller may be relisting as a 7 or 10 day auction, and the UID can be closed after 6 days - leaving time to cancel the auction if the original buyer does pay in time.

I don't think it's ever appropriate to relist something knowing there's an outstanding payment. Do sellers not understand that buyers are SO tired of sellers cancelling listings for no good reason? Sellers need to get over themselves and be patient or stop using auctions. It is not OK to inconvenience bidders who have done nothing wrong.
not talking duplicates obviously

Did you consider the "Seller" may have also wanted/needed his money to help support his family due to hurricane, fire, flood, etc.

But hey if you like to sit on dead money for 8 days - with no response & then reward bidders who waste your time.
If you cancel the first sale you still have 2 days to wait & then the "new buyer" has at least a week to pay
Plus, you get a "bad mark" by eBay --- which for a low volume seller can be the kiss of death ...
