Well, let's have Fun, I have a gripe with eBay

I promoted my listings to pay eBay an additional 10% to promote my items, but really didn't think that would apply to shipping and taxes too, I sold an item for $40 but with shipping to far away zip code it cost another $25 and with taxes came to over $73, eBay charged $7.30 to promote not the $4 I was expecting, just saying watch out.

I think this is supposed to be it. 😐

Yeah I guess I'm confused about what you were trying to say in general. But I don't think it makes sense like the op says to not charge promoted fees on the shipping cost because that wouldn't be fair to people who have free shipping where the cost of shipping is rolled into the item price.

Am at a loss here (have not sold for years), what are "PL fees"?

Re: Well, let's have Fun, I have a gripe with eBay

Most smart sellers who offer F/S are rolling the shipping price into the item price.

As someone mentioned on this thread:  There is actually no such thing as free shipping because someone has to pay, either the seller or the buyer.

But we're talking about charging PL fees, not FVF.

@toomuchstuffagain35

The OP introduced the topic of final value fees earlier in the thread, in reference to the FVFs charged on sales tax. See below:

I am not surprised but sounds like hidden fees that depend on customer state, if someone from PA. buys, I pay $3 or $7 less than one from another state, things a seller can't control, thus the gripe.

PL fees are Promoted Listing Fees.

The OP is annoyed that just like Final Value Fees, the PL fees are applied to the cost of shipping and sales tax.

To get a more accurate perspective at a glance, only look at the eBay Fees section of the chart.

@simply-the-best-for-you   I do and can tell you that the percent Ebay charges are nowhere near what they advertise. Try selling a $22.00 item that cost $48.00 to ship across the country.

22.00 Sale Price

48.00 Ship Cost

03.60 Tax

73.60

x 0.125

9.20 Fees

0.30 Process charge

$9.50

Sold $22.00 - Fees $9.50 = 43.18%

You've been around long enough that many like to say I am a cheerleader and such, but this Ebay tactic is definitely one I disagree with. IMO they should just charge a flat rate of say 18% for every sale.

You might think that you are selling a $22 item, buy the buyer KNOWS that he is buying an item for $73.60.

We can agree to disagree. If I sell an item for $22.00 and only receive $12.50 that is a 43.18% charge.

Correct on the buyer's end which I do not care about that. The buyer of course paid to have it shipped. I know this topic has been going on for years, but it still does not make it right. I cannot believe everyone just says oh'well, I will pay 43.18% of my profit to sell my item. I am actually doing the same thing here but not liking it. 😀

Re: Well, let's have Fun, I have a gripe with eBay

I just think it's double dipping. I have already paid 12.9% on shipping and taxes, and now I have to pay an additional 10% for the same, it's not right to charge a seller 22.9% for someone else's taxes and 22.9% for shipping, it's unethical whether written, implied, or whispered.

Yes we do, b/c we know it isn't 43% LOL.   Like I pointed out earlier, that pie chart includes Postage costs & Taxes in your fee percentage, which it should not.

@sapphire_studio  I was saying that pie chart Coolcollections was looking at, which tells you the percentage of fees, from your Performance tab in SH, is misleading b/c the Fees portion of the pie chart (and the accompanying side data) includes Postage & Taxes as COSTS of selling aka "Selling Fees" per the chart.   Postage & Taxes are NOT selling fees.  Postage technically is, when you do your taxes of course, but for all intents & purposes, it's not a selling fee, since 99% of the time, it's reimbursed by your buyer.   So, it gives a false portrayal of what the selling fee percentage really is.

ETA:  Also, as I said it does not include your COGS, which IS a part of your selling cost, though not a Fee.

Ummmm, you're aware it's optional, right?  If you don't want to pay it, don't do PL's, it's that simple.
