We may have spotted some errors in your customer profile

Yesterday I got the invitation for the ebay payment beta program. I`m not opting in. Today I get this message from ebay with the above title. I have an individual acct. NOT a business account. To the best of my knowledge ebay does not have my SS number. I  find the contents of this email to be a tad intimidating due to this line in the email: "This ensures that your account stays in good standing and that your future payouts continue uninterrupted."

My personal info. is correct so I have to ask myself if there is an actual problem or what is going on? I have no intention of changing my account to a business account or giving ebay my SS number unless I absolutely have to. This has always been a hobby for me. I have no intention of ever turning it into a business. Turning it into a business would remove what is left of the enjoyment I have for the hobby. Here is the contents of the email:

Has anyone else gotten one of these emails?

Yes, I also got it.  It is the IRS that is requiring the SSN.  I'm not sure you can continue to sell without it.

@hillbillymedia

Was this in your Ebay messages?

Do you think you were sent this because you were invited to test the new payment thing and they just assume you will accept?

If I got an email like that and it came to my email account I would be considering sending it to spoof@ebay.com.

Yes, I got it and am sure it's legit.......also think it is connected to the invite to start using the new payment system in Sept.

At that time, ebay will need our soc sec #'s, the same as paypal needed them, in case we sell over the threshold and they have send the form to the IRS.......

Like the Poster, I have an individual account..........and I went there to add the soc sec #, but danged if I can see where there is a place for it.  I don't want to switch over to a Business account either.

Could you tell us where to find the SS box on an individual account......I may be blind or there may not be one (YET? if ever?)

I believe this is wrong and speculative information.

I also have an Individual account and just looked at my Personal information in Account and it doesn't have any of those slots to fill in.

Probably the only ones getting this right now are those on the invite list.

As usual, ebay hitched up the cart before the horse.

It's correct info........we went thru the same thing with paypal when the gov't began to require reporting to the IRS if sales went over $20,000 and 200 transactions.  They won't wait until you sell that much to ask for and since they will now be a payment "handler", they will have to file if a seller reaches the threshold.

Looks like you and I are in the same boat. I can`t find where to enter my SS number for my individual acct. Paypal has always handled this and until I part ways with paypal (which I won`t) or sign up with ebays new payment option I see no reason they need any extra info. from me.

What you are saying makes sense with the exception that (right now) ebay has nothing to do with my money but paypal does and paypal has all my information.

I called ebay a couple of days ago.  I stayed on the line and did not ask for a callback and got my problems solved.  So the next day I got a email from ebay about how they tried to call me per my instructions and my contact phone number is invalid because they could not contact me.  And that I had better get that fixed.

Can't ebay get anything right?  I did not ask for a call and my number is correct.

Does not instill me with faith about how ebay is going to handle my money.

Hello Alan,

There doesn't seem to be any mention of an EIN.  Is ebay not allowing or using them?

They are legal, acceptable by the IRS and suggested by some, including my merchant account provider.

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.

Perhaps if Brains were described as an APP, many people would use them more often.

I know someone who got that email and they have not been invited.
