Yesterday I got the invitation for the ebay payment beta program. I`m not opting in. Today I get this message from ebay with the above title. I have an individual acct. NOT a business account. To the best of my knowledge ebay does not have my SS number. I find the contents of this email to be a tad intimidating due to this line in the email: "This ensures that your account stays in good standing and that your future payouts continue uninterrupted."
My personal info. is correct so I have to ask myself if there is an actual problem or what is going on? I have no intention of changing my account to a business account or giving ebay my SS number unless I absolutely have to. This has always been a hobby for me. I have no intention of ever turning it into a business. Turning it into a business would remove what is left of the enjoyment I have for the hobby. Here is the contents of the email:
Has anyone else gotten one of these emails?

I`m with you. I just don`t like the whole idea and there is so much unknown at this time. I have way more questions than answers so at this stage I`m going to pass until I`m forced into something and I will deal with it then or fold.

They have been going towards that for some time and may just escalate to that, hence asking for your business name and business address.
That is exactly what I`m afraid of. If it`s more work than I want to do I`ll just pull up the tent stakes I guess. I`ll make that decision when the time comes. In the meantime I will march on and enjoy myself.

They may assume that every seller is also a buyer.
I really doubt that.
Since ebay has the place set up that facilitates buyers being able to steal from sellers, I doubt that they ever consider a seller anything but a wallet waiting to pay their bills. Instead of ever considering a seller as someone who could take their buying to a company that doesn't look like they let people steal from them.
It doesn't matter the cause of why I got that email - it's how incompetent that it makes ebay look that should be troubling ebay. And why would they choose to continue that behavior.

@myboardid wrote:Yes, I also got it. It is the IRS that is requiring the SSN. I'm not sure you can continue to sell without it.
What you are saying makes sense with the exception that (right now) ebay has nothing to do with my money but paypal does and paypal has all my information.
A form of eBay payments is already live on the site, as announced several months ago. Just like Paypal, eBay is assemblying the info ahead of time. Paypal does not wait until you hit the requirements.
There is a popular thread right now where the seller ignored eBay requests and now has all of there listings removed.
Good Luck Selling!

Which is exactly what I`m trying to avoid if possible. As it stands, at this time, there is no place to enter some of the information they have requested in the email so I have no clue if it applies to me or not.
