Way overpriced items

I know it's ebay, and you can ask what price you want. But how can some people get away asking  outrageous overpriced items? For example a seller is trying selling a little piece of moose hide, 3ftx18" for $900. I contacted them to ask if that was for real, and the were very arrogant about the price. You can buy full hides for under $400 from numerous tanneries. Just seams like bad business practices.  Then they message me telling my they sold a bunch of them on ebay.  Too funny, because not one listed on their sales record. What a joke this seller is.

There's two sides to every coin.  Your defensive and angry attitude has made me not want to buy from you when you were on my list as a possible source for some of the hides/leather I buy.

Too bad, I do like alot of your items but don't want to deal with any drama.

I don't think you're on my "Saved Sellers" list but I go through it from time to time and if you

are there..........................

Well lets see interesting reply, first it was this guy who contacted me about the moose hide because he did not like it.  My sense of humor has done me well over the years the problem again is not with me but this guy who took offense because one of my items in his mind was too high. So he told me in the private email he was going to report me to ebay and in the forums as if I would be scared.  Well guess what because of his post I made a couple of sells of it. so good for me.

No, the problem is your attitude towards customers, it shows even here. Your attitude puts people off, you are fortunate if you still have plenty of business, many owners who behave like you do are either fortunate because of location or some other kind of advantage or... Their stores are generally empty.
You somewhat remind me of the Golds in Hardcore pawn, how they're even still in business is the biggest mystery of all, I can only guess it must be location because if I treated my customers the way you and the Golds treat yours I'd be out of business.
You blame others for your problems, that is not cool.
There is no need to belittle or denigrate customers, even if you fully feel they are in the wrong.
You don't need to put people down just so you can feel good about yourself, even if you are 100% in the right.

Your item was overpriced and you're here telling us that it's like the reverse of a loss leader?
If that's the case it works in reverse too, anytime I've ever had an overpriced item front and center it NEVER "got people to come inside and look at everything else," if anything it drove them away before they took a second look. That's how it works in reverse, it drives customers away.
You're not talking to people who opened up a basic store yesterday here.

A true loss leader is something so well priced that people want to find more of the same, that's why they come inside, and the reverse of that doesn't work, plain and simple.
Your kind of attitude drives buyers off ebay, that hurts us all.

Yeah I doubt it as well.
There may have been a couple of sales but I really doubt it was because of the uhm, "awesomeness" displayed here in this community. This seller's items are not my market but if they were I wouldn't be buying from this seller now, I have dealt with this type of seller in the past (and local businesses as well) and generally speaking I avoid those businesses like there is something seriously rotten there.

May or may not be a stunt.

The sellers attitude towards this either way puts me off.

I have seen the sellers listings several times as I'm in the market for different unusual leathers.  I don't need an overly defensive seller if a buy doesn't go as planned for whatever reason.

I'll just scratch them off my list as a possible source........................

Exactly.  Defensive, arrogant, and I don't for one second believe this whole thing about a dumb little scrap of moose pelt being their store's showcase other-items-sales-getter.  Silliest thing I ever heard.

Bingo!

Re: Way overpriced items

I guess you could try taking some hide from a moose yourself, I know if I was able to take some hide from a moose, I would ask whatever price I wanted to.

Now you know why I responded to to defend myself but to show how dum this whole thing is just because he did not like my $900 price tag. So yea he is NOT a buyer or will ever be for that matter. Just someone who has nothing better to do then complain about the world.

Although you claim you aren't here to defend yourself but to "show how dum (sic) this whole thing is because he didn't like your price," you've shown quite the opposite.

What I see are two hotheads who are each trying to outshame the other, each of you making yourself look worse - @lowkre-60  like a bad buyer and @somethinguneek like a bad seller!

My opinion is that as a seller, you have to (or should) take the high road, and that would be to ignore and if desired, block. But to get into a **bleep**ing contest to see which one can one-up the other is immature and unprofessional.

Re: Way overpriced items

@lowkre-60 is the one in the wrong. They purposefully came to this forum to name and shame another seller because they did not like their price. That behavior is disgusting in my view.

@somethinguneek  has every right to be angry and to defend themselves.  I don't think those coming down on this seller would appreciate it if another seller - and possibly a competitor - came to the forum to name and shame them. You also do not know how you would react if it happened to you until it happens to you. I know how I might react, and I'm a nice guy. 😁 If you attempt to name and shame me publically over not liking a price though, a bear is coming out. I would love to take the high road, but I know myself well enough to know it may not happen.  I think this seller needs to be cut some slack here.  They have great feedback from their buyers, unlike the person who started this.

To @somethinguneek , I saved your store. You clearly make nice, quality products. I would have no problem buying from you. Your reaction and how you defended yourself doesn't turn me off in the least. I'm going to steal your line next time someone asks me about a price. I'm going to tell them I'm thinking about raising it. Too funny. Keep on!

I'd happily buy from your store.

I'm surprised the OP's  selling anything at all ......with such poor feedback !

Re: Way overpriced items

The value of any item is what a willing buyer and willing seller agree upon.

Since you and the seller cannot reach an agreement and this is not a mass produced item which is identical to any other that you could buy, its value is unknown and will be until someone buys it.

Albeit infrequently, I have sold some items for outrageous prices that many people would never believe someone would pay. All it takes is one buyer to prove them wrong.

I am impressed by @somethinguneek 's store and spelling, even if I am highly unlikely to purchase any of the items.

The great thing about ebay is you aren't ever forced to buy items you don't want, for whatever reasons. 🙂

Re: Way overpriced items

@lowkre-60

I really don't spend any time worrying about sellers that do that kind of thing.  Buyers will take care of them as they move to other more reasonable sellers.

While sellers of overpriced items may get some sales from buyers that don't shop around enough, it will show in time that they aren't giving buyers the value they are expecting for the money.

I've been actively selling for many years and this has always served me well.

Re: Way overpriced items

There's one clothing seller I check out periodically. They have nice stuff, and it sells for very, very high prices. Whoa! Then I looked at how much they had listed, and how much they actually sold. OK, selling 150 or so items out of 12,000 listed isn't stellar. But I guess they're happy with that. They probably have more storage than I do.
