Watch out for fees and options you did not authorize....

I was just charged a $4.00 fee for a bold listing that I did not authorize - I have never added any such extras and certainly not on a $6.50 item.   I usually check to make sure that the $0.00 appears before clicking on the List button as I have caught such things in the past.   I don't know how I missed this one.

And then on another account I made a sale through the global shipping program even though I do not offer this option.  Since ebay recently switched that account to their confusing new listing format I assume that they opted the account into global shipping because I did not.

Beware - with all the changes ebay has been making - anything can happen.  It took weeks to straighten out my listings the last time they made category changes.

@grandmakskrafts You authorized it, admitting that you "usually" check to make sure your insertion is free but missed this one.

It's your mistake but one I bet you won't make again!

Watch out for fees and options you did not authorize....

Not so fast Billy Ray!

I, and several others, reported this issue to E-Bay last month.  In my case, it was concerning the new relisting tool.

I ended several items that had no listing upgrades before ending (later confirmed by E-Bay rep).  I had 10 items in unsold that I checked and hit relist.

The new relist tool came up and showed the 10 listings.  At the bottom of  the page, it said the cost to list was $0.00.

I didn't edit or change any listing.  Didn't even touch a check box.  Just clicked the "Submit All" button which will submit them all.

As soon as they listed, I got a pop up box saying my estimated charges was $4.00.  What?!!!  So I went back through the 10 listings, and sure enough, E-Bay had added bold title to one listing, seemingly at random.

The bulk lister reported $0.00, so the change was made AFTER I had hit the submit button, and was made server side by E-Bay!

Naturally I got on with customer service, complained, got the bold option removed and a credit for my $4.  They said they would issue a ticket for the error, and I also posted about it in the technical issues forum.

Sounds like the bug still exists and this seller just got hit with it.  No amount of checking you would do would find this, because the option was never selected when you listed.  The feature gets added by E-Bay AFTER you click the submit button.

Nothing the seller can do to prevent it!!!

I said usually because at my age of 77 - I can't be 100% sure of anything, even things that have become automatic like stopping when the light is red or checking for the $0.00.  However, I do know that I never checked any box for a bold listing.

After going back and checking my accounts - I found two of four had been opted into global shipping.   I guess that is one more thing I will have to put on my checklist when ebay makes their constant changes.

I just caught three items that auto-relisted getting charged for listing upgrades that weren't there on the initial ad. They somehow added Bold Listing to the ad after it relisted for the second 7 day period, plus a $.35 listing fee on top of that.
I specifically make sure it says zero before posting each listing, and it had relisted automatically last week with no fees.

eBay has been notorious for doing stuff like this for a long time. Like adding "best offer" to tons of auction listings after the listing has been submitted. Others in the past have complained of being "opted" into Global Shipping after their listings were created. With the new listing tool, I can imagine that anything goes.

@grandmakskrafts

2 quick things...make sure you are not confusing "Global Shipping" with "Ebay International Shipping" if you are reporting errors to CS...

allso, if you haven't already done this, make sure you are not enrolled in Global Shipping Program here:

https://www.ebay.com/ship/prf

If it (Global Shipping) shows up as an option (when listing), I would think you have to be 'enrolled'

(?)

I have never enrolled in global shipping nor do I ship internationally - yet two of my accounts were opted in and two were not.  I already opted the "ins" out this morning - just wondering how long it will last.

I am not a newbie - my original account just celebrated its 22nd anniversary this month.  More strange things have occurred in the past two years than the first 20.

Watch out for fees and options you did not authorize....

This has happened to me a few times when using my phone for relisting. I too did not authorize the $4.00 bold title, as it is not even an option to choose, it is available only on the website. Boy did I learn my lesson, since not everything is shown in the app I will do those functions on my PC. I was going to flag this to my FB eBay community pages but I thought it was just me and my error.
