So this dealer was wanting to bid on an auction of mine so he could certify it and sell it for profit.
Then he starts accusing me of selling a counterfeit. He provided another listing (which ended over a month ago) of the same coin, which turned out to actually be counterfeit. I told him the coin was purchased from a reputable shop (our shop bought a dealer's entire inventory), and we have no reason to believe it's counterfeit.
I must have gotten four messages about this coin being a possible counterfeit from the guy. He kept telling me he wants to buy it, but he wants to be sure it's not counterfeit. Could I check the weight.
Well I did, then I posted it to the listing (Peru 1838 8 Reales) for everyone else bidding to see, and the price shot up from a $50 bid to a $145 bid overnight.
Then the guy pestering me tells me based on the weight, he's sure it's not counterfeit anymore, but now that I've shared the weight with all auction people, everyone else knows it's not counterfeit and he won't have a chance at winning.
Our shop says the coin is worth $150 in the grade it's in, and in the past hour it ended for $420. I've already been paid by the buyer who isn't this dealer that's been pestering me.
If he just asked me questions and left it alone (and believed me when I told him why it's not a fake), I might not have felt the need to share the weight of the coin with everyone on eBay, thus it might not have bid so high as people would have been a little unsure of what they were bidding on.
Well it worked out for me, so long as I get to keep my money after the current buyer receives it.

So after reading all that you don't really have a question but just talk about your experience with this dealer. What I would have done was just blocked that dealer/buyer and moved on. Whenever someone accuses you of say counterfeit which you know personally it's not then you will be a potential trouble dealing with that person. It's best not to deal with that person and I would have told him straight up. You are making false accusations and I don't want to deal with you. Goodbye. That's it.

I would say that I'd have added him to my Blocked Buyer List after his second message. There would not have been a third and a fourth.

I do, on occasion, get a question for a listing that is missing the detail that they're asking about, so I will reply with an answer and add that detail (or possibly another photo) to the listing description as well. There is no reason to keep your answer limited to him only.

A similar coin not as nice as yours, sold for $312 shortly before your auction ended.

I did investigate and brought it in to my shop to make sure... I figured if one person is questioning it (because it apparently is a frequently faked coin), then perhaps others might have concerns, so I posted the weight. And I XRF tested it, both matched. Generally with the fakes they can get something right, but not everything.

Someone asked for rim photos which I posted since I thought others would want to see. It occurred to me when I got that message (which came a few hours before the message from that dealer), that there might be questions of authenticity and perhaps the rim was one way to tell. I figured everyone should see it.

Interesting. I don't think it's real. It doesn't look real. And it's 1.5 grams too heavy.
I noticed he added the weight after being contacted, probably by the same guy that contacted me.
This has gotten interesting...

It's best not to deal with that person and I would have told him straight up.
No further conversation after the accusation. Straight to the Block.
And mention it to the shop owner, so they can add their own "blocks" in case the accuser tries dealing with them in future.

Shall we get out the popcorn machine?

B&M store isn't on eBay, I do all their eBay stuff (if I accept the merchandise to sell for them).
B&M store is more of a local trade show type of dealer. You'll find a table with their staff (since some people who work there are private dealers too) at all the local shows in Ontario and Quebec.

LOL, the best response was pointing out that fake that sold for $312.
I sent pictures of their coin to the world coin expert in the shop and shop owner to see what they think, but I call fake. Plus the fact it's too heavy. I did see a real one for sale for almost $900 USD in high grade.
I was actually waiting for this auction to end to tell the story since the ending would determine how my story would end (without the need to come back and post an update on who won the auction).

Why post so much about nothing. Just my opinion. People are reviewing posts to help or get help, not chat.

Congrats on your sale!!
What on earth this dealer have to gain by making a nuisance of himself?
You offer 30-day returns so he needn’t have feared buying the coin. Plus, most buyers know that they are protected by eBay’s Money Back Guarantee. So if he had purchased the coin and then discovered it was fake, he had two avenues to pursue and would have been eligible for a complete refund.
Good job on providing solid customer service by giving him additional info about the item and going the extra mile to update the listing.
He hesitated and lost out.

Attitudes like yours are what have made the boards so zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz lately.
If you're not interested then don't read it or comment.

Maybe I read it wrong but it appears to me you would of ended up losing money if it weren't for this dealer.
Since you listed it in a way people might pass due to questionable legitimacy.
So you should be thanking them. 🤔
