So I wake up to start shipping after a AMAZING long week-end of Sales and see an email from paypal (it's legit and my paypal messages as well) saying "Your Account is No Longer Eligible for Funds Now". With some mumble jumble about because of changes in your account activity holds may apply to your money from sales. I'm assuming this is because the large number of sales over the past 4 days...but...
SERIOUSLY?? I know many aren't having great sales and I feel for them ...but for those of us who are able to still keep going and doing well they do this. I've been selling as a part time / full time seller for 15 years I have high volumes like this every holiday season. Honestly this couldn't be at a WORSE TIME. Anyone else had this issue? Of course the only way to contact them is via message and who knows how long it will take before I hear back from them.

I've not known of anyone getting their funds now removed due to a sudden sales spike, but it is a new program. What Paypal normally does is totally freeze the account for six months. Yes, that's a fact - you can Google it. Paypal will randomly freeze accounts that have a sudden sales spike, or ones that suddenly start selling something totally out of the ordinary for that account.
Go in to your settings and make sure your sales volume figures (avg. transaction price and monthly volume) are high enough to support any sudden spikes.
Settings >business information>update https://www.paypal.com/businessprofile/settings/info/edit
Be glad that's all they did, because losing access to your funds totally for six months would not be good.

I literally have 0 sales lately (I did do 1 test sale to myself and refunded it) and got this same issue.
I called the PayPal pro department and they told me PayPal is DISCONTINUING FUNDS NOW, AND THAT *ANYONE* WHO HAD IT WOULD GET SUCH AN ALERT.
I thought the "suspicious activity" was me refunding the test payment.
I was told that you still should have instant access to your funds.
If you get in touch with them and can see what they tell you, thatd be great. I'm also going to call them again later to make sure the girl on the phone wasn't just telling me anything.
Long story short: I heard the program is being discontinued and for EVERYBODY and you have nothing to worry about ..... (I found your thread by googling "funds now" within last 24 hours.

By "Funds Now" do you mean, the Instant Transfer program that PayPal just announced last week will be FREE (as opposed to the usual charge when one selects Instant Transfer, and not the Standard Transfer option)?
If so, and if PayPal indeed discontinues the ability of sellers to instantly make transfers to their account, that would be rather strange. I would understand if PayPal would no longer offer this service for FREE during the virus situation, but will they really completely remove this option, even if the PayPal account holder is ready to pay the full charge in fees for this service?

What is Funds Now? A leading benefit available only to select sellers, Funds Now helps you reach your business goals by giving you money from your completed sales within seconds. What Funds Now promises is that, in the future, money won't be held even during disputes. No more holds, no more delays – at no extra cost to you.
In rare cases, delays may still occur to help protect your account, e.g., if we suspect you've received a payment from a fraudulent buyer.
If this happens, we'll let you know right away and help you resolve any issues

That's interesting. I'm still waiting for a reply from paypal (I'm in Canada and there is 0 customer service reps on the phones and the only way to contact them was via message). I did do a refund yesterday evening to a customer (and and another customer cancelled an item and was sent a refund yesterday morning).
Honestly I didn't even know I was in the FUNDS NOW program (and guessing that's where my confusion is in the message).
Now I read the message with the understanding of FUNDS NOW - it says "Because of changes in your account account activity, holds MAY applay to your money from sales".
My account isn't frozen - it's allowing me to print labels off from my balance. So i'm hoping it has something to do with a discontinuing of the program. They certainly could have worded the ALERT Better as to no scare the **bleep** out of people when they're already stressed.

Yep - this is all true. It's right there in PayPal's TOU, but you can plan in advance for a sales spike by contacting PayPal to update your account.
The above link to check settings is good only for business accounts, not personal accounts so personal account holders may need to call in to find out that information.

You cannot list an item and bid on it or buy it. You will get banned for doing that.

kiralicious, I just called Paypal again, spoke to a different rep, and he told me the same thing: Paypal is removing funds now from EVERYONE'S ACCOUNT, at least temporarily. I think due to the coronavirus.
And *gulp*, they were supposed to be sending out the company wide notice on April 8th, but *gulp*, "forgot".........
If you want you can call them yourself: 1-888-883-9770 .. Just hit option 2
NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. YOU'RE GOOD !! (Glad you made this thread. I was about to be extremely disappointed, thinking they deactivated it on just MY account.... And me having the crazy coincidence of refunding my test transaction, which increased my anxiety lol).
Thanks and congrats on the sales !!!

I got the same message this morning and everything in my account has been steady. I talked to two representatives today... One said PayPal removed 16000 accounts because of possible disruptions due to the Corona virus. The other representative said PayPal made most retail account ineligible because of the virus.
I was around during the "Great Recession" and PayPal put a rolling reserve on my account holding 5% of sales for 25 days to protect them from me going out of business so they're probably doing something like that again. They are protecting themselves, just be happy they don't have you on a rolling reserve.

Thanks for explaining. I did not know anything about this! LOL! And I have had a business account with them for many years, but probably, not the high sales volume that would have qualified me. At any rate, I think it would be nice if everyone would enjoy the same level of protection.
For PayPal - which touts itself as not a bank - to freeze $$ in accounts and to go into individuals' bank accounts to begin with, should not have ever been allowed.
Stay safe

That's not true.

Explain how you can bid on your own item or buy it.

I didn't realizing you were referring to them buying their own item. My impression was that you were telling them that they couldn't list because they no longer qualified for the Funds Now program. My mistake.
Of course it isn't a good idea to buy our own items with another ID but I doubt that doing one test like that is going to result in getting banned.
