Just got a neutral.  Not up in arms as if I got a neg, but you guys can see the listing.  He bought a broken item that says for parts not working and left a neutral because it didn't work. Duh

OK, here is your problem. You wrote that the board just needed a wire soldered back on. The buy is saying, NO, soldering a wire back on will not work like you said because the board is ruined. Have the buyer return for refund. Next time if you sell broken items that are junk just say in the listing that the item is broken and junk. Do not try telling a potential buyer how it can be fixed.

yes i was wondering about that. I have an amp listed as ‘parts not working’ it was tested and I was told that channel 1 does not work. Got me thinking that if someone buys it and finds something else wrong what would happen.

Correct. Do not mention the problem is channel one. If the buyer gets it and more than channel one is wrong they will also want to return it. In the listing say it is broken and for parts only and does not work. Leave it to the buyer to figure it out.

When you make a parts only listing, don't ever mention what works and what doesn't work, because someone will take advantage of that. Don't  mention what's NOT wrong with it. Just list it as non-working, parts only.   Let the buyer assume they are getting a scavenger item and not something that can be repaired.  Yes, you will get a lower price, but it *shouldn't* come back to bite you in the butt.  It's gone, you've got money in your pocket and the buyer gets a better item than they bargained for.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

Why have the buyer return the item? It won't make the neutral go away but it will ensure that the money (plus more for return shipping) will be removed from the OP's pocket.

It's not all bad.  At least  the buyer was too stupid to leave you a negative.

today he replied to my email and he said I knew it was for parts only but one of the parts was damaged. This kind of contradicts his whole point

I believe i would not have responded to the buyer, and just let it go. Unless you were going to approach it as a return, then i’d just say “return for a full return.” (I see the listing has a No Return policy.)

The feedback isn't really a reflection on you. It is just a declarative statement. No denigration or name calling was used. Other buyers wouldn't pause at what he wrote, i believe, or alter their perception of you as a seller. A follow up comment would call attention to it, so i might not leave one either. It will soon be lost in a sea of green.

What email did you send? I understand wanting to reach out to determine what problem the buyer had. But unless they open a case or return, i believe no action on your part is needed.

I have been going over all of my 'for parts not working' items and added this to the amp.  Thanks  for your help

**Update 12/19/19 The problem with channel #1 is the one I know about, there may be other issues undetected, please understand you are buying an item in need of repair.

I think if it’s a neutral it already stands out. However I would only respond of I could say something to show future potential buyers that you stand by your items and customers. Many replies make the seller look worse than the original feedback.
