*** WARNING TO ALL EBAY SELLERS - EBAY REPS HAVE CONFIRMED A KNOWN " HOLD" TECHNICAL GLITCH

I sold an item for $1629 that was returned March 11th. EBay managed payments put a hold on the funds, as they always do, posted that they released the funds March 16th and refunded the buyer on March 23rd. All the while the hold for the $1629 remained on the account, putting my account in a negative balance status, despite continuing to sell more items. On March 26th, due to the faulty Hold on my account, Ebay then went into my bank account and took $1629, but again did not release the hold of this same $1629. I've called at least 3 to 4 times per day, speaking to the horrible customer service reps that all put me on extended holds while they looked into the issue. I was transferred to High Value Claims reps, Managed Payments reps, supervisors and all of them gave me different excuses. Most importantly, one of the risk managers told me specifically that Ebay has a known  technical glitch that started on March 1st, 2021, whereby a handful of sellers, including me, have their funds being held despite the system on the backend showing that there are no holds. But when the sellers and ebay reps look at these accounts, they see these faulty holds, some reps of which have screen shot the sellers pages and opened up tickets with Ebay IT. All the while, Ebay continues to operate as normal, doing millions of transactions for hundreds of millions of dollars regularly, yet they continue to have their customer service reps skate around this known issue for those, like me, who it's affecting, and they have absolutely no resolution. They are choosing not to help each individual seller that this is affecting, leaving us to fend for ourselves through the black hole that is Ebay customer service. Ebay is, in effect, stealing the monies owed to me, to the tune of $1100 to $1200 because they will not resolve the issue. I've sold over 1000 records over the last several years and I can assure you that with the customer service processes they have in place, if you are one of the victims of this reported technical issue, you are in for long days of anguish, frustration and outright stress. At the end of the day, this is a class action lawsuit waiting to happen and at the very least, a small claims lawsuit that I will be pursuing, effective immediately. When you have representatives actually email you saying that this is a known issue, that they themselves can't believe this isn't getting fixed, that they apologize profusely for what's happening to you and give you specific dates when the issue will be resolved, at the latest, then you have a serious problem. I don't expect to ever get the $1200 they owe me, so please be aware that this is going on and make sure to document all of your transactions and correspondence with ebay reps so that you have backup.

I dont know your case exactly. But if ebay literally stole your money I would file a police report for theft. Also contact the Calf Atty General's office.

What are they doing?  As a seller this is absolutely troublesome.

Re: *** WARNING TO ALL EBAY SELLERS - EBAY REPS HAVE CONFIRMED A KNOWN " HOLD" TECHNICAL

They are basically deciding to give me the run around by not going into my account and releasing the $1629 hold despite the buyer being refunded a month ago and ebay going into my account and taking the $1629 that was originally paid to me. They have ebay reps giving me different stories on what's going on. but more importantly, there are ebay reps telling me that this known technical glitch exists and they can't figure it out and a select number of sellers are experiencing it. That alone is very troublesome as they should allow us sellers who've been affected to open up a second account, have the monies owed to us transferred to that account while they work on this " so called " glitch.

Ever since managed payments started, all of us sellers are begging for the classic ebay experience to return with Paypal processing and covering sellers.

I do feel like they are stealing my proceeds because they will not let me speak to anyone in Technical support, nor the High Value Claims department, and being a dot com vet of 25 years, I know how simple it is to go into my account, take the hold off manually and make the customer (myself) happy.

I'm sure many sellers aren't experiencing this, and i realize ebay's contract with us says sell at your own risk, but a known technical issue, acknowledged by your own employees, and documented in emails from those employees has class action lawsuit written all over it. Obviously i'm one person among millions of sellers, but nonetheless, what they are doing is wrong and makes me extremely nervous about ever selling on here again.

You agreed to eBay’s TOS (terms of service) no lawsuits, class action or otherwise. Even if that wasn’t the case you would have to have very, very deep pockets. Extremely deep.  Any disputes must go to arbitration. I do hope you get this resolved soon. What a terrible way to treat an eBay member.

I just went back over the TOS and discovered an arbitration hearing can be held in your county. You won’t have to travel to Utah. Let us know how this turns out. I’ve always wondered how this works and if anyone is ever successful.

I do believe the MP agreement allows small claims court cases unless they changed that.  Also yes eBay treats their sellers worse than 🐕🚰

Re: *** WARNING TO ALL EBAY SELLERS - EBAY REPS HAVE CONFIRMED A KNOWN " HOLD" TECHNICAL

EBay managed payments put a hold on the funds, as they always do, posted that they released the funds

Actually this has been a thorn.  They put a hold on your funds; and if you refund the person, they take the cash from existing funds or your bank account.  But the original hold then changes to "released", but they are not released.  Ebay should take the refunded cash from the money on hold, and then, return the fees as a cash injection.  Moreover, there should be two lines on the stats page (a hold line and a separate released line), not a re-edit of the same line; i.e., the hold line changes in a blink to released (but it is not actually released)----that's not good for bookkeeping, who's the culprit that did that programming?  Even the "On Hold" page will be blank, even though 1) your cash is on hold, 2) the cash is claimed to have been "released", and 3) the "released" cash has not been given back yet.

And if cash is taken from the bank account, it is colored black as if you are receiving money, not red when they are taking money.

Fix this one eBay.  Make it right for us.

Re: *** WARNING TO ALL EBAY SELLERS - EBAY REPS HAVE CONFIRMED A KNOWN " HOLD" TECHNICAL

Absolutely!  I'm just sick and tired of ebay customer service. every time i email them asking for an update to release this hold, they come back with referencing a different transaction or a different excuse with the typical response of, we appreciate your patience as we take another 3 to 5 business days to look into the issue. this is so easy to resolve. just manually remove the hold on my account. let me get on with my life.

It's now been 37 days since i refunded the buyer, and 33 days since they went into my bank account and took the $1629.

I've accepted that i'm never going to see the $1100 in sales i generated over the last month because of this $1629 hold that just won't go away.

Disgusted!

@jake2tay

I read just yesterday in another ecommerce group discussion where a seller said the FINALLY got the funds from a refund given the buyer in the middle of JANUARY.  I guess 3.5 months give or take is A-OK with ebay?  Fortunately, for that seller the amount was only $39 and change.

If you EVER find out what is going on with this, I hope you will come back an let us know.

Re: *** WARNING TO ALL EBAY SELLERS - EBAY REPS HAVE CONFIRMED A KNOWN " HOLD" TECHNICAL

i will. the sad part is that there's no accountability on any ebay reps part. i've now dealt with these departments:

- IT

- Managed Payments

- High Value Claims

- Ebay customer service (Biggest waste of time ever)

I have an IT ticket opened on April 1st. I have High value claims responses saying it's their issue, but then telling me that it's not their issue because it's less than $2000. And most importantly I have a rep in Risk management that went into detail claiming this is a known tech issue since March 1st, but we all know it's been going on longer than that. I've been selling on and off for years and to be left to the black hole of customer support is just sickening.
