I've had some form of volume pricing or "buy x get 1" free/discount promos in my listings for years now. Why is it that it's just recently that I'm getting a lot of buyers asking me if these promos are eligible when these quantities get purchased individually at different times?
For example, I have a promo that says buy 3 get 1 free (add 4 to cart) and I get questions like "I bought one of these six months ago, and one more last month, so I'm buying 1 more now and please send me the Black one as my free 4th item as per your promo."
When has any promo similar to this anywhere has ever allowed individual purchases to consolidate for a discount? I mean aside from frequent user cards (like some restaurants would have)... but that's a different type of promo.

No idea why you're seeing a recent increase. People will try anything to get around the rules and get something for free.

Some buyers are just TSFE, and for some reason YOU are a magnet to them LOL, I mean serously, how do these people manage to dress themselves in the morning?

Yea, weird. Buyers never asked me this question until recently though.

There's a YouTube somewhere telling people to try this on. I don't think so. 😖

Reaaaaallly now? So sad.
So it seems two of my most recent posts (this one and another one) now have overlapping issues. My other post talked about how a buyer was "borderline" abusing the free returns/shipping aspect.
I have a buyer who recently bought 1 item (less than a month ago) told me he really liked the quality and asked me if he bought 2 more if I can get the 4th one for free (this is for a buy 3 get 1 free promo). I told him the promo is only eligible when the items are purchased together in one combined order. He said "okay no problem, I would like to return the one I purchased - please provide details on how to return it"
This guy has over 1500 feedbacks as a buyer and has left his share of negatives to sellers. My spidey senses are going off with this guy... I think he just wants to return that one item just so he can turn around and re-buy it along with 3 others to take advantage of the promo. So this would be "borderline" free returns abuse. I asked him if there was any issue that I can help with and he just replied "You stated 100% satisfaction - so I would like to return the one that I purchased." I think he's being intentionally vague... also given the fact that in his original message he said he really liked the quality. So what other reason could he have to wanting to return this item all of a sudden?

During another back and forth with this buyer he finally said "No, it is good quality - I'm just going to return it so I can buy 3 get 1 free as you would not allow me to purchase 2 additional for a total of 3 - then get the 4th one free.... Thank you - please provide direction on the return."
One thing I find interesting is that he didn't file a return already himself. I'm wondering how I should reply to this guy. Suggestions?
