Can someone explain why, over a period of 5 weeks can views on one particular item have been a pathetic "8" and yet today, it shows just "3" views? Another item showed "7" three weeks ago but now appears as "3." There are others! If an item had 10 views a month ago.....how can it suddenly show maybe "6" views? This is not kosher! This never happened a decade ago!

Views are on a rolling 30 day count, so views older than 30 days roll off.
And no, it didn't happen a decade ago, when views were lifetime and included bot views. That doesn't mean it's a bad thing.

For a fixed price listing that’s been active for more than 30 days, the view count is a rolling 30-day count which can increase or decrease. This rolling 30-day count is different from a cumulative lifetime view count, which only increases.

Rolling 30 day count, just as the others said. It's been about 4-5 years now.

Now that that's all cleared up, can someone explain to the op why his two items only got 3 views each?
WHAT'S GOING ON HERE EBAY?

Only one viewer matters.. The one that buys..
I've sold plenty of items that sat years without a view..
