Victim of buyer fraud

I just sold an item on ebay to an unscrupulous buyer.  All listings are no return because of previous return issues.  This woman bought a necklace.  After she received it she said she didn't like it and didn't like the way it laid on her neck and wanted to return it.  I called ebay, they said I didn't have to accept the return so I told her no and why.  She was nasty, replied that she would leave negative feedback and I would hear from her credit card company.  Ebay removed the negative feedback and removed the return request.  She then went to her credit card company and told them the purchase was an unauthorized transaction thru paypal.  I called paypal, they said I was covered,  I provided paypal proof of delivery, proof of her lying and was told they would investigate.  When that didn't work for the buyer she went back to her credit card company and told them the item was not as described, which was also a lie.  Paypal and ebay would now NOT SUPPORT ME, PROVIDE SELLER PROTECTION OR HELP IN ANYWAY.

ALWAYS CHECK BUYERS FEEDBACK LEFT FOR OTHERS!!!  if they have a history of leaving negative or neutral feedback BEWARE!!!!!!

I'm sorry that happened to you.  Unfortunately, we have almost no protection against dishonest buyers.

You probably don't want to hear this, but I don't see the buyer as being "unscrupulous". She received the item and as she said, just didn't like the way it lay on her neck. It happens.

What you should have done was say you'd accept the return but she would have to pay return shipping.

Get it back, refund, done deal, move on.

eBay allows sellers to block buyers with more than 2 nonpayments in a year. Would be nice if we could also block more than 2 returns. I also have never understood why sellers can not leave negative feedback on buyers.

All this buyer had to do is open a Not As Described case on eBay to get her refund, and you could have gotten a defect if you fought it. Generally, proof a customer lied to get a refund (and avoid paying for return shipping) is ignored by eBay, to the seller’s detriment.

In retail, sellers need to be prepared to refund when necessary. You turned a buyer into an opponent and lost her business permanently. In the name of customer service, an understanding refund would have won her good will and possible repeat business.

You alluded to trouble with managing refunds in the past. What was the problem you encountered?

Wouldn't lying about an unauthorized transaction be considered "unscrupulous" ? Seems to me an honest person understands the terms of any purchase he / she makes and sticks to them even to their own detriment.

Okay, then edit it to say the buyer's original request didn't show she was being 'unscrupulous'. = )

When the OP dug their heels in is when it turned nasty.

Isn't it nasty lying to a bank or credit card company about a purchase? It's also fraud.  What sort of person swears to their bank that they didn't buy something, knowing full well they did?  Why would anything he /she claimed from the start of the transaction be believable?

The seller listed this item as "no returns."  There was nothing wrong with it, but the buyer didn't like it and didn't want to accept the terms of the sale, so she made a false statement to her credit card company.

Yes, the seller could have accepted the return, but she chose not to since it was listed as "no returns."  Buyers should take responsibility for reading the listing and accepting the terms of the sale.  Sellers shouldn't be expected to give in all the time.

In any case, I don't think any seller needs to have this buyer as a repeat buyer.

that is ridiculous, my listing was no return, she should not have bid.  She could have contacted me prior to bidding.  period.  Sellers should be able to list as they prefer without buyer fraud.  She should be held accountable.  She should also be banned from ebay.

I was very nice to her and explained why I could not accept the return.  I called ebay and was told I could refuse the return.  Again, my item was listed as no return - because of other unscrupulous buyers.  She did not have to bid, she could have contacted me before she bid, she has a history of abusing other sellers.  Hopefully she will be banned from ebay.  This kind of behavior is why sellers quit!!

I think ebay ENABLES bad buyer behavior and DOES NOT ALWAYS PROTECT SELLERS.  This is a perfect example.  Sellers HAVE NO RECOURSE

Lol I just posted about this myself. Why do buyers have to be dishonest? I accept 100% free returns for any reason and still when someone files a return they file it as NAD! I do my best to be good and fair to my buyers. I am seriously re-thinking Ebay. I had no idea there was such dishonesty, scamming, and hostility on Ebay. No seller protection at all and a venue who uses good return policies to charge higher fees. I so wish I had not started this. I thought it would be fun, something I could do from home without stress. It is so far from being not stressful. Here I have invested thousands of dollars in this adventure and am starting to feel I no longer want to be part of this. This is sad! Really really sad! 😥😔
