Very Slow Sales November 2019

We have been selling on Ebay for 15+ years now, but since March sales have struggled.  Ebay seemed to make changes to the search engine meaning items we had sold hundreds of units of were no longer selling.  They became almost invisible.

Today we only had 8 sales on EBay.  A few years ago we were averaging 50 a day.

I would be interested to hear how other sellers are doing at the moment?  I am extremely worried about the way things seem to be going!

i, too, sell in clothing. if you were using GTC, they allowed those to roll over and relist without making changes, but the incorrect and/or missing data rolled with them. and there were existing IS areas also wiped out. you would have never known unless you wanted to tweak a listing and then notice size and a lot of other elements missing. i am lucky because i only have a minimal amount listed i could fix. feel sorry for those that had a lot more than me. and the fixes are not all 'fixed' as of today. good luck to you.

There are plenty of sellers, the money does not come from the seller, it comes from the buyer. The reason for the poor sales could very well be (the manipulation of the search engine by ebay) and the over abundant competition. Then add in the controversial subject of the economy. My personal opinion is that most people are in more debt now than ever before because of their poor spending habits in an economy of inflated false "consumer confidence" ..

All I have had are watchers.  I take some listings down that have watchers,  change photos, change wording, change pricing, post them again and watchers are back.  I presume they are the same people.  All they do is watch.  One item sold in November, and two in December.  Wow, what a way to supplement an income.

On our iMac, we have a "print scale" option that varies from 75% to 93% before you print your label. Hope this helps!

I agree. Looks like ebay is coming to an end. It was fun while it lasted.

My sales are down 50% from just 10 days ago. This the worse I have ever seen it. I’m listing more and more everyday but selling less and less everyday smh. Unexplainable.

This has clearly been the worst Nov/Dec we have had in 14 years of really good holiday sales. We are about 70% off of our normal numbers for this time of year.

Yeah, pretty close here as well. In the HEIGHT of the holiday season; this is UNREAL! Sure; I may not have the hottest of hot items and all that and sure; I am so sick of the non-business here I haven't listed anything new in a bit and sure...wait...Nah...that's all. Here's their side: endless fees, the "send offers" nonsense (Which I have used with VERY minimal success thus far...and GUESS WHAT??? My well-researched price-points PLUS my percentage off sale PLUS my "promoted item" fees PLUS my original store fees are ALREADY reflective of the "offer" sent forth unto the potential buying masses!!! I mean, HOW MUCH MORE are we supposed to slice and dice our prices in order to allegedly increase sales potential???? I also called Ebay and had them reset my listings which sorta worked a little...not much but not none either.
THEN comes the weird "kicks" sale bit they did...HUH? What? WHY? Their business, their call but are we really in need of THAT at the moment? People buying and selling shoes over $100 a pop are just one slice of the overall pizza of failure that Ebay has become. HELP US ALL via getting back to basics! Realize you are NOT Amazon nor will you ever be! I'd change their marketplace strategy as being the "NOT AMAZON" even going as low (or high...perspective here) enough to brag that Ebay pays taxes (IF they do and I'm pretty certain they do). They should also promote the reality that Ebay has some cool really rare stuff on it vs. pickier Amazon...In other words; get it together already....make the differences SHINE and be happily wedged into the realm of 2nd place...and MAYBE, if they treat everybody right...back to the top of the game.
Further...HIRE some folks like me that have been in the game for numerous years now, folks like me that know what does and does not work, folks like me that bring the experience of the grass-roots workers to the table...Oh well, I guess I should work on that life-raft of other opportunities instead of whining as the ship continues to sink. Have a holly jolly Christmas and to all a better year next year!

I checked the listings of many of the complainers, and what I see is overpriced tchotchkes--the kind of stuff you see at every tag sale.  I don't see any sellers of collectibles, which is what I have been selling for twenty years.  For such items, buyers are knowledgeable and everything depends on quality and price.  Perhaps the fault is not eBay's but yours--the market is glutted with the kind of trinkets, glassware, household and decorative items you're trying to sell.

Well, here are a few reasons why so many people is switching and not buying on ebay anymore. First, the incentives to buy online are gone... before, you only have to pay taxes on items from vendors if they were nationwide or in the same state as the buyer, but right now you have to pay state tax even for items sold and shipped from China so I have no clue how the Chinese government will receive that money from us. Another reason is the warranty since most seller's offer a return option... that's far away from the hassle free 90 days return policy from most big chains and last but not least and as the cherry on top of the cake ... you have to deal with porch pirates and all sorts of delivery issues: poor delivery service and handling, mail always being delivered when you are not home, lazy delivery workers leaving packages without even knocking your door and helping thieves to take advantage of this, etc.
So now you have your answer, I switched from buying online to buying at brick and mortar stores since last year because it doesn't make any sense

I have been selling on eBay for 15 years and am use to slow sales every once in awhile but this last one from October to now has me thinking of other ways to make a buck. I keep waiting for it to end but I think this is the end of Ebay for me. Seems like everyone is buying from Amazon now.
