--Final Update, October 28--
The category changes announced in our Fall Seller Update have been completed.
Now that all category changes are complete, while you might still see some adjustments to searches, it is okay to update or edit your listings without concerns of losing data or having it moved again.
We appreciate your feedback on this roll-out. We'll continue to adjust the process based on the input we’ve received here, and we'll take all of these suggestions into consideration for future updates.
As this project is now complete the post is being locked from further comments.
Resources and observations
We’ve heard from you that updating your Item Specifics in time for the February 2022 requirement date may be a challenge.
A useful tool that may help is located in the Seller Hub under Listing>Active. There is a drop-down box labeled ‘Download’ which will generate an Excel document for ‘Missing Required or Recommended Item Specifics’. You can read more about this tool here.
Should you come across any inaccuracies within the new Item Specifics we ask that you report those directly to sdsupport@ebay.com so our team can investigate. Outside of that, please share suggestions as to changes you'd like to see going forward here, selecting the Categories and Item Specifics option.
---Update as of October 19th---
We apologize for this delayed update. Thank you for your patience while our teams worked to finalize category changes.
All listings have been moved to their final destination categories. You may now proceed with checking your categories, revising items, and updating item specifics where needed.
Some item specifics have been renamed, and the value you originally provided has been copied over to the new item specific, so you don’t need to re-add these item specifics. We encourage you to update your listings with item specifics that are showing as “Required Soon.” These will become required on February 22, 2022.
All other item specifics are either Recommended or Optional. Learn more about item specifics.
Some categories were retired and replaced by product-based categories. You and your buyers can still find the items you’re looking for. Simply browse to the product category of your choice and use the filters to refine your search.

---Update as of October 14th---
The work continues on this move and is progressing according to plan. We are on track and anticipate all category changes for your listings to be complete by end of day tomorrow (10.15). Thank you for your patience while our teams implement these changes.
---Update as of October 13th---
We continue to work through this change and thank you for your patience as our teams work through it. We wanted to provide answers to some top concerns and questions:
Why are Gallery Plus fees being charged for items that were previously free?
We determined that a technical issue impacted a small number of listings, which resulted in incorrect charges (including Gallery Plus, subtitles, and insertion fees) for some sellers. The issue has been fixed and we will be crediting impacted sellers as quickly as possible. No calls to Customer Service are necessary as credits will be issued automatically.
The eBay Standard Envelope shipping option is grayed out and I can’t select it. When will the issue be resolved?
The eBay Standard Envelope shipping option issue resulted from the category changes update and has been resolved. eBay Standard Envelope is now available in applicable categories if your item meets the established criteria.
Should I edit my listings if they’re in the wrong category, have been moved to another category, or have wrong or missing item specifics?
No. Recent category changes require updates to many thousands of servers and data changes to nearly every aspect of our platform. This level of adjustment takes time, which is why we asked for your patience while the process runs. We expect most data updates to be completed within 48 hours, but can they take up to a week (i.e., through Oct. 19). After that, if you have an item specific in mind that you think would work well for your listing, please consider adding it as a custom item specific.
Why isn’t my item coming up in search?
The category change update is still in process. We anticipate search issues will resolve when we complete most data updates during the next 24-48 hours.
There are more item specifics now than ever before. Do I need to fill in all of them?
No. Item specifics that you have already filled in will be maintained as the category moves are completed during the next week. In addition, new soon-to-be-required item specifics are being added and will become required by Feb 22, 2022. As always, the more item specifics you fill out, the better visibility your listing has to buyers.
For Parts & Accessories, when will fitment/compatibility charts start working again?
There was an issue with parts compatibility not working properly as the category changes rolled out that has been resolved. You should now be able to see the options to add fitment compatibility when editing your listings.
-----------------------------------------------------------
We’re updating some of our categories and item specifics to make your listings easier to find.
Starting October 12th, you’ll see updates to the following categories. Learn more about category changes →
Collectibles & Art
Jewelry
Musical Instruments
Parts & Accessories

As these updates go into effect, you may see temporary impacts to your listing experience or to the visibility of listings in the affected categories.
This is a result of listings transitioning to the updated item specifics and category structures. Your affected listings should return to normal within 48 hours, though you may see irregularities on some listings for up to a week. We recommend checking your item specifics and categories in affected listings after these updates are complete.
These updates also include new item specifics in the above categories, which will be required February 22, 2022. Starting today, these item specifics will be available as you list, with the “Required Soon” tag. Learn more →

This horrible change is so impactful that I am now extremely concerned how I will be able to meet my various personal and professional obligations and bills, as of the coming month ahead. My sales are down extraordinarily. I feel betrayed.

The same problem exists in the cameo and intaglio category in jewelry. Ebay wants to put both in the same category (cameo) but they are two different things and often used for two different purposes. A buyers looking for a cameo is not looking for an intaglio and the same for a buyer looking for an intaglio. This example is not "worlds apart" as Pottery and Glass but it still goes to the fact that whomever is making these categories has no knowledge about the category they are changing.
I spent a half hour the other day in an Ebay chat room trying to explain to four different persons that a preowned, cut and polished diamond is not the same as an uncut RAW diamond. It finally reached a point where I felt I was beating my head against a wall so I gave up. These are such simple things for me as a seller of diamonds and cameos/intaglios.
It is hard to believe that Ebay would take advice from the programmers over the sellers who clearly know their product.

As a small seller, I am beginning to wonder also.

Calling this a serious problem, is putting it mildly!

Kyle, can you show any less empathy or understanding of what actually is going on here?

"All listings have been moved to their final destination categories".
Does that mean that like in the movies what wasn't killed off in the first round of changes, was in the second attempt at Fixing them?

Thanks so much for ruining the "Postcard" category with these unnecessary changes. Now all postcard listings are grouped under "Topographical" postcards or "Non-Topographical" postcards. I have collected postcards for over 55 years and I have NEVER heard of a "Topographical" postcard. I have also NEVER heard of a "Non-Topographical" postcard. Who decided at e-bay to come up with these categories????????

Very well put! ... That is what's really behind this unprecedented and totally unnecessary train wreck. Things were working just fine until the unknowledgeable tinkering began by those at eBay who were foolishly given carte blanche to impose their badly-thought-out will on both sellers and buyers.
You see what the results are... already well over a thousand legitimate complaints to just this one thread, mostly by those who really know their stuff and can't believe what we are seeing with our own eyes. Only time ill tell how many will jump ship instead of having to modify thousands of listings that were better off being left alone in a category/IS system that was working just fine. I do not blame those one bit if they do jump ship.
I've been here for over 23 years as both a buyer and seller, and you could say I've been a "cheerleader" for eBay changes over the years, including MP. But for the first time, I'm seriously thinking of looking at Etsy or others to see if things are better thought out by those who actually use common sense and don't necessarily believe in "change for the sake of change". I've already lost 10 days revising my ~700 items, and feel very sorry for those who have many thousands of items affected.
My wife also sees what's really going on here, and she has decided that Hades will freeze over before she puts her craft business on eBay, which she had been considering until all this came down two weeks ago.
Cheers, Duffy

I have 4 pieces of antique children's glassware listed in the Stippled Vine & Beads pattern. Why is the toy spooner listed in Pottery & Glassware> Decorative Pottery & Glassware> Beads????. Other pieces ( butter dish) are in the garbage pit default category Pottery & Glassware> Cookware, Dinnerware & Serveware> Bowls. Don't tell us this mess is fixed & in the final categories! This is such a disaster! Sales are down, no refund for Gallery Plus (eBay has had my money for a week & a half now), & buyers & sellers alike cannot find things. I have 17,000 listings. now, not all of them are affected, but I have no intention of trying to correct eBay's screw up! I am paying you for a service which is not being rendered. Don't keep pulling the wool over our eyes & tell us you are working on it! This should have been tested before the rollout. eBay is causing many Sellers to panic. Thanks, GREED-BAY!

And remember, it is considered a search manipulation violation if your item is listed in the wrong category.
As always, please list your item in appropriate categories. We investigate complaints and will move your listing if necessary. Learn more about our search manipulation policy.

Almost like search manipulation on eBay's part this urge to purge and merge the current categories. Now it will become a case of "it doesn't seem right, but close enough" for many sellers.

Well, that is laughable! eBay is violating their own policies with this change!

this is a disaster! now it it literally impossible for customers to browse by category - 5 billion items are listed in "plates" because all the categories for manufactures are gone - this is by far the craziest and shortsighted thing that eBay has done in all my years here - INSANE! customers will never bump into an item because if they don't intentionally word search it they will never take the time to browse for hidden treasures...

Looks like they are matching some Item Specifics used in UK. I think the UK site uses Topographical and Non-Topographical. Please, someone correct me if I am wrong.
One thing that bothers me a lot is the CIRCULATED item specific. I never used that term in my postcards description. I thought it was specific to coins.
If a postcard was NOT POSTED then it would be UNCIRCULATED.... even if it shows wear?
Circulated to me is a term describing a condition. Postcards, as far as I know, have condition ratings such as mint, excellent, very good... etc.
Can anyone clarify the use of this item specific for postcards.
I am feeling uncomfortable marking a non posted, used postcard, as "uncirculated".

I'm a teeny tiny seller.
I can deal with having to go through my existing listings to fix the ones that are now in wrong categories
ie. my glass
BUT...
I tried two and it still reverts back to the wrong category.
Can someone tell me...what to do?
THANKS!
