Unnecessary Loss / Hassle

A Buyer paid for item, I shipped, it was delivered.

Just rec'd an eBay msg.

'Oh, that was my old address, when it comes back to you, I will re-pay shipping to my new address'.

BEFORE eBay started hiding eMail addresses, I would send a Thank You msg.

I always included the 'Ship To' address there.

I also added a link back to my listings.

I USED TO get LOTS of Thank You, rec'd, happy replies this way.

AND... I'd often get...

'OMG... that's the wrong address ! I moved, ship to':

Usually, the reply came BEFORE I printed label.

A few times, I had to void, re-print.

NOW, there's no 'extra verification'.

So, my Buyer & I must WAIT for item to come back.

OPEN Pkg to be sure item isn't damaged.

Then, I must re-invoice, but, HOW ?

I don't have the eMail, and, not sure the request can go thru Msgs.

I can try & call, I guess, and, HOPE the Buyer can pay w/ PayPal.

RE-PACK & print label & drive to P.O. (to get scan).

I was moved to Managed Payments in November.

Really sad... OTHER Venues don't BLOCK communication.

They don't KEEP me from providing good communication & service.

I think this is the gist of your post? That you can no longer find the buyer's email address?

Try this, and please come back and post again to let me know whether it worked for you or not. If it doesn't, there may be other ways that would work.

  • My eBay
  • Selling
  • Orders

(Find the appropriate transaction.)

(On the left-hand side of that transaction, activate the dropdown menu.)

  • Print shipping labels or invoices
  • Invoice for your own records

(You should see the buyer's email address.)

@genv

You can use   "contact buyer" to send a message.

You can use the eBay scrambled/encrypted email address in the order details to message the buyer.

There is no reason for you to have the buyer's email.

email is not blocked except for "private" messages.

goes through just fine from the Purchase details.

For the record , if the address you are given is wrong, it is considered Undeliverable by eBay and the seller is not required to refund.

Anything.

Now that's the rule and is not particularly ethical, but I would be inclined to refund only the purchase price (or value if your Free Shipping item includes your shipping costs) less your eBay and Paypal fees.

I am old and cranky.
