Uneasy feeling, or anything I should worry about

Greetings, My apologies if I chose the wrong board,

Recently I sold a camera, the high bidder has yet to pay, by ebay rules they still have 24 hrs, but I recieved this message from buyer "

Hello!“Thanks for deal. I hope, the item is in good condition. Sorry for bothering, but there is one problem about shipping.I’m going out of town for a few weeks. I’ll be on a new address. I don't want to cancel the order and Can you forward an item to my new address?

in which I replied, I will ship Continental US only and only upon payment received,
to which they replied with a yeah ok, and a photo of an envelope with the address in which they want it shipped , I am just a bit Leary about this, has anyone else experienced anything like this, a sketchy photo of an envelope address in Delaware

The message you got was not from your buyer, it was a scammer trying to trick you into shipping the item somewhere else.

There was no reason to cancel the order, just ship it to your buyer, not the scammer.

Scammers will watch for an expensive item to sell, then send the seller a message claiming to be the buyer, trying to get seller to ship the item to a different address and if seller does, they don't know they've been scammed until the real buyer files an INR.

Have a great day.

Thank you, I really would rather not sell to this buyer after this, but ebay I guess states they have 48 hrs to, pay, do I need to wait, or can I just move on now

The 48 hours is the minimum time that eBay gives the buyer to pay before you can open a UID.  The buyer would then get 96 hours more to pay before you could close it.  Only then would it be safe to relist.

I would only ship to the shipping address listed in the payment documentation and would double check my PayPal account by going to that site to verify that payment has been received.  Do not use any links in any email to do this.  Use your browser and sign in directly.

@sacred_ground ,  Better safe than sorry.  If he contacts eBay to complain (probably not since almost certain he is a scammer) , tell eBay he was giving you several addresses.  There was a problem with his address.

I did and you are correct he had no idea and was pretty shocked when we discussed it, he was very understanding, and kind about it , and understands that I will probably relist,

Thanks for the help

yes & best they showed their hand before payment! So didn't lose those Paypal fee's Paypal charges when you'd have to cancel and issue a refund. That is money you'd be kissing goodbye!

***JUST TAGGING***

So now there are two separate transactions from two separate members being discussed in this thread: the OP (sacred_ground) and a second member (x100). The two transactions appear to be different from each other, and posters appear to be mixing up the two members/transactions in their replies.

IMO, it's always a good idea to start a new thread rather than "hijack" (for lack of a better description) another member's thread so everyone's on the same page.

In general, I would concur. However, 'hijacking' threads usually refer to asking different questions and taking the conversation on a tangent. In this case, we're both dealing with very similar, if not identical problems.

I also think that flooding the forum with almost identical problems is not that helpful and is very repetitive as forum members would respond as many times as there are problems. This way, you can give general advice (and the advice given to the OP is entirely applicable to my issue) that helps multiple people and cuts down on the noise.

Lastly, it pulls all the advice into one thread so Google searches will direct people looking for answers to the most relevant thread.

If the problems were different, I would agree with you 100%.

I think in your case you've now cancelled a legitimate purchase. No wonder the actual buyer was upset. It's not their fault some scammer tried to get you to send it to them instead.

I think you're referring to the OP. My buyer never responded to me and the information in the scammer's email showed he knew the buyer's address.

Then your situation wasn't the same and the responses are becoming jumbled.
