Unclaimed Item

Hi, I sold an Item just over a year ago and the buyer paid for it, it was a big Item that needed to go by truck, I gave the buyer all the necessary info on the Item so he could arrainge the and schedule the shipment, but time went by and he did not send the truck, I sent him several messages and even called him and every time he said he would take care of it, it is now just over a year later and he aparently lost all interest on the Item, I moved it to a storage place and  have been storing it and need to get rid of it, can I sell it again?

Since it has been a whole year, I'd say that you can consider the item to be abandoned and should go ahead and resell it.

Re: Unclaimed Item

I had that happen once to an item I sold online (not ebay), and after well over a year I gave up and figured the guy's wife killed him for buying it.

Re: Unclaimed Item

Just to cover your hiney, I would send a certified return receipt requested letter to the buyer's known address informing him he has thirty days from the letter date to remove his property, otherwise it will be considered abandoned and will be sold.  Keep a copy of the letter and the original receipt for your records.

Once that thirty day period is up, sell it.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

Re: Unclaimed Item

No need after a year. The op can check their local law’s but it’s usually 30-90 days.

Re: Unclaimed Item

Did you try googling the guy's name and address yet? Maybe he passed away. I had that happen to me once where someone bought an item from, only they didn't pay. I googled the guy's name, and unfortunately one of the hits took me to his obituary. Apparently he passed a couple of days after he won my auction.

Re: Unclaimed Item

Your response is the answer to the sellers question. Right now the buyer, who is legally the owner of the item, is getting free storage and if the item is sold by the original seller without giving a legal notice to the legal owner who is now the buyer of the item since it was paid for...welp… you'll end up getting sued.

Better check this with an attorney as laws vary and you want to dot your i's and cross the old t's because the buyer very well may have intentionally set you up 🙂

Cheers

Re: Unclaimed Item

You could deduct all fees, all storage costs, all moving costs, and if there is anything else just refund and send an itemized bill, or you could just write it off and list it again.
