USPS running slow, buyer demandnigh refund, options?

So I sold and item , shipped on the 17th via 3 day Priority, it still hasnt arrived, and tracking doesnt say it will be there by tomorrow, only that it arrived at their distribution center  12/22. Buyer is demanding refund because he says it isnt there yet...my ad states no refunds.  Ive tried to contact the usps distribution center with no luck , will paypal just auto refund him? What are my options?

As long as you can show tracking with movement even if the buyer files an INR they'll be told to wait. Are you in Guaranteed Delivery?

First, both Ebay and Paypal allow refunds regardless of what you have to say in your listings. There is no longer any option for "no refunds".  So yes, this snowflake buyer will be able to eventually get a refund.  Your best hope is to cooperate with the buyer and have the buyer send back the item for the refund.  If you take a hard "no refund" position you increase the likelihood that the buyer will  get both (1) a refund from either Ebay or Paypal and (2) keep the item as well.  But let the buyer take the lead as they might just be blustering at the moment.

Delivery dates are estimates; IMHO it's misleading for USPS to state "2 day" or "3 day" for Priority Mail when in reality there is no guarantee.  Especially at this time of year, and most especially this year when they were unexpectedly closed on a regular business day early in December.

Depending on the tone of your buyer's communications, do your best to explain that delivery estimates are just estimates, and there's no point in even thinking about filing an "Item not received" claim unless it's not delivered tomorrow.  Whatever you can do to buy yourself some time before he files a claim.

Depends on which type of claim they file. If they file INR, then they can't win it if the tracking shows Delivered before the claim is closed, and it won't be closed it there's movement in the tracking record.

Did they open an item not received case on ebay or Paypal ?
I have packages late all over, My one email inbox is loaded with USPS updates all late packages updates.
The INR's may start anytime now but as of now haven't gotten 1 yet because I have been spending hours contacting buyers letting them know I haven't forgotten them and am tracking their packages & getting updates. I started this because I ended up getting a few inquires about items not arriving yet.

Stop trying to contact the distribution center your wasting your time
You can go into USPS.com and request tracking updates to email or text . do that instead.
If it arrived there Dec 22nd it's moving my mail carrier is out today so it may get delivered by today or tomorrow. I have been getting Sunday deliveries.

Go to USPS.Com enter tracking & click get updates, check mark all the boxes they offer .

I've had one leave the first Distribution center on Nov 30th and fall off the face of the earth. But as I haven't heard anything I'll wait and see. I did put in for update emails but nada.

Note to Buyer:   "Dear buyer, I'm sorry that your package is being held up by the USPS and that you haven't received it yet even though I shipped it very promptly. If you wish to send it back to me for a full refund, by all means feel free to do so." innocent

Note to Self:   "From now on, I will never ever run any listings on ebay during the middle part of December. It just isn't worth the aggrevation dealing with impatient people and all the crazies who all seem to come out of the woodwork during the month of December. #!x@%#!  From now on, I'm going to make sure all my Christmas listings are finished by the end of November!!!" Smiley Mad

Not only are they runnig slow but their temporary help is making major mistakes.

I have had one package disappear.  And two others have not gone beyond the preshipment phase.

And mail in my area is being delivered so late that they are either tied or it is too dark because they are putting it in the wrong boxes.

How does the buyer return something they haven't received?

"How does the buyer return something they haven't received?"

Obviously, they won't get refunded until the package ends up being delivered and sent back to the seller.

Has the buyer opened up an "item not received" request via eBay?  If so, upload tracking to the request.  No need to even consider a refund at this point.

I had 2 disappear for 2 weeks at the end of November, tracking wasn't moving. I called USPS and the supervisor I talked to was not very nice. She smugly told me they had 30 days to get the packages to their destination. I told her my buyer's aren't in agreement with that and neither is eBay. She told me tough cookies.

Both packages showed up in the system a couple days later and eventually were delivered to 2 very angry buyers.

I suspect your packages are in some distribution center somewhere like mine were until a worker got to that bin of packages.

I did everything right, shipped same day, tracking, all of it. eBay still dings the seller, it's another money grab sadly. Perhaps eBay should ding USPS instead?

And folks, tomorrow eBay does consider a regular shipping day, so if you have orders to go out, get them out else you will be dinged and your FVF's are higher.

Technically the Postal worker was right.  They can and do operate within the 30 day rule.   One of the exceptions to this is if the company, in this case the PO,  promises that they will get the item delivered at such and such a time.  But as far as I know, all times set out by the PO are estimated times, therefore they are not promised times.

I honestly think that if the PO wanted to, they could tell E-bay to 'take a hike' with their guaranteed delivery or their estimated delivery times.   But, of course, they won't do that since E-bay's sellers are a large part of their business.

Also, as far as I could determine all businesses can  operate under the 30 day rule.  Unless one has specifically stated and promised a delivery time, not an estimated time,  the buyer actually has no legal standing until after the 30 days is up.

COYOTES RULE!!!
