I sold an item in a bid and clearly stated in the posting that I will ship it timely but cannot guarantee delivery by Christmas since it doesn't actually depend on me. The buyer paid and then contacted me to say that my P&P was too high anyway and I should upgrade to first class posting to have it delivered the next day. I replied and said that it doesn't depend on me and what I can offer at most is to cancel the order.
This looks bad to me and I'm panicking, actually considering to cancel the order because it might be the kind of buyer who makes problems. If it doesn't get there before Christmas I bet I'll get a SNAD request and who knows what else.
Has anyone had this situation before?

You can tell the buyer that you are required by Ebay to ship by the method listed in the listing, and ask him if he would like you to cancel.
You can report the buyer for asking for something that is not in the listing.
If you get a neg, possibly CS would remove it based on these messages.

Do not cancel unless buyer advises you to do so. It could result in a defect.
You advised buyer it may not arrive in time for Christmas. You offered to cancel.
Ball is now in his court. If you do not hear from him to cancel then send out as per the terms of your listing.

Buyer asked to cancel, so I guess I'm at least off the hook. Reported to eBay though, I was pretty sure I can make that sale to get some extra money for Xmas which is obviously not going to happen so not chuffed.
Thanks a lot to all of you for your support and great advice! And merry holidays!

Hahaha, I see! I'm so sorry. Would it be a good idea to just stop bids after December 15? It's too late now but would be good to know for the following years.

Don't forget to report the buyer thru that ebay link saying they are trying to negotiate after purchasing (which I technically consider additional services).
