I did not intend to open an eBay store, but only want to sell a few items as a member. However, after I set up my account, the page described my account as "business." I'm confused by this as now I don't know whether I'm a personal member selling a few things or whether I'm a business member, or a business member with a "store."

It doesn't really matter here in the US, as far as I know.........there are some advantages in programing I think for business sellers to do more complicated things like set up shipping tables, but I wouldn't worry about how you are classified.......

You do not have a Store subscription.
There's no substantive difference whether you are a personal or business seller, in the US.

Welcome to e-Bay! Hope selling here is fruitful for you.
Once you become a little more acclimated and have been selling a while, exploring the benefits of a Store might make sense. Looking at your profile, you only have 1 listing and it does not show a store attached to your selling ID currently.
Good luck! It can be a great adventure!

In addition to what's been said above, I also recommend you read and make sure to thoroughly understand the 3 following links if you have not already, at a minimum, before continuing on ebay:
ebay Money Back Guarantee
https://pages.ebay.com/ebay-money-back-guarantee/
Selling policies
https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/selling-policies/selling-policies?id=4214
Managed payments
https://pages.ebay.com/seller-center/service-and-payments/managed-payments-on-ebay.html
Additionally, if you have spare time, hanging around these forums and just reading topics randomly (along with the "Buying" forums), you can learn A LOT of information from the experienced buyers and sellers here who volunteer their time to help out those in need.
Wish you the best of luck!
