Trinton, problem for you to confirm or correct me

Sold an item, shipping address was "invalid" . Pretty obvious it was a spelling error of the town.  Confirmed with buyer, changed the address on the shipping page from Myebay, saved the popup change.

Change showed on that page in upper left.....

Printed the packing slip which showed the old address

refreshed page, still showing correct on shipping page, incorrect (old) on packing slip.

With that window left open, opened another window and went to SH Awaiting Shipment page...which, again, showed me invalid address, so the change in Myebay didn't go thru to SH page.    Changed it there.....with same results.

Closed both pages, went back to check.......both showing the unchanged address.....did it all over in both places, same results.

Printed the label (after correcting again)......printed the corrected address.

Out of curiosity, after closing everything, went back to item and to "print another label"........shows the old, incorrect address......

So looks like updated address changes are NOT being saved........

if you can verify, can you please pass on to someone?  Thanks

It's a shame that both ebay and paypal won't invest about an hours programming time to verify shipping addresses.

I would have canceled the order as a problem with buyers address. Sent them a note explaining and they could reorder with the correct address.

Have a great day.

Well, they know enough to tell me it's invalid before shipping, but don't know why it can't be done at checkout, as you indicate.  This problem is with what seems to be a basic error in not saving the changed address, unless I'm missing something.

and Ken, I judge each sale individually, and certainly there are some I would cancel and ask them to rebuy........this is relatively inexpensive and the mistake is pretty obvious, so quicker/easier to do it this way......

I guess I should have done @Anonymous

And that is how they should have done it instead of summoning a blue.

Why would you expect a change you make to a shipping label address permanently change the address stored in the buyers profile?

It sounds as if it is working as it is meant to.  As far as I know eBay doesn't allow a seller to change the address on the sales record.  The payment address in eBay matches the payment address in Paypal. If you could change it, they wouldn't match.  You can change it on the label but that doesn't change it anywhere else.

In this situation I would just change it on the label.

That very well may be true, but at the same time, where is the record of where it was mailed for ebay?  or even that it was changed in the sales record?   If ebay gives the option of changing it, seems like the change should easily show somewhere IN the sales record.   The change has nothing to do with the buyer profile as someone mentioned, it applies only to this transaction.  And ebay "made" me change it, due to their warning that it was invalid.  I don't know, because I didn't try it, whether it would have let me print an invalid label or not.

It may well be working as intended, that's the reason I asked if Trinton could correct me.......but still seems like a "record" of the change should be somewhere.......there's no mention of any address at all in the Paypal shipping payment.

I haven't been able to get label corrections to take/print for over a year.  For minor corrections like that, I just write it on the label with a pen.

My most common fix is adding an apartment number that's shown in PayPal but not in ebay.

A misspelling of the town wouldn’t really have mattered as long as the zip code is right. I’ve mailed items with misspellings before even names I knew were misspelled or something. They always get there.

Now Cool....didn't you know it was impolite to refer to someone as "they" when they are in the room?

While you can edit the shipping address in the eBay Shipping Label form, whatever is submitted at the time you hit the Purchase Label button is then submitted for validation against the USPS address database, and may come back in label form with additional corrections made. These are usually minor ones, such as modifying abbreviations, changing "Suite" to "STE" and similar. 5-digit ZIP codes are expanded to the correct 9-digit equivalent for the given address.

If the OP would post the original ZIP code and misspelled City name (street address not needed), it might be possible to get a better idea of what happened in this case. I suspect that in a case where the City name doesn't match the ZIP, eBay balks because they can't tell which of the two items is wrong (or, if the ZIP is valid but the City name is not found, they don't want to guess what the City name probably is, as it's part of the Delivery Confirmation).

AC...........more or less correct, except on shipping page before purchasing label.

Invalid address. Click "Change" to revise it.

Twin moutan, NH 03595
United States
  • Once the moutan is revised to Mountain, it goes thru.  Problem is that I can't find a "record" in ebay of that change.........and my thought, perhaps incorrectly, according to most here, is that the correction should be somewhere as proof the address was properly corrected.

Check your Manage Shipping Labels page, where all your shipments through ebay are shown.  In the Hub you have to click into the Orders tab, then the link shows up as an option on the left menu.  In that list of shipments, if you click on the mail class under the Shipment Details heading, you get the information on the shipment, including the actual address the package was shipped to.

I just double-checked to be sure.  I had a package go out Monday that the zip code was off by one number.  The sales record still shows the original incorrect address but the Shipping Labels page shows the corrected, actually-printed-on-the-label address.

Hi @dhbookds, it looks like this is working as intended. The original address provided at checkout will remain in the order details and the sales record, as the original address is what was submitted during payment. A seller can adjust the address when printing the label when needed. We do verify addresses based on information provided by the Postal Service, but a buyer has the option of overriding this in case the information is not accurate. Personally, the suggested address by USPS for my home location is missing a letter (presumably as an error from USPS, as I've had longer addresses in the past), but I overrode this when setting up my account.

That being said, I can pass along feedback that you would like to be able to save a record of changes, no problem!
