Tricky add tracking problem

Received 2 orders from a woman and wanted to ship them together, something I've done hundreds of times. I printed the label and went to add the tracking number into the record for the second item, but got an error message that the tracking number was already used. I realized then that she had made the purchases from two different accounts, although the address is the same.

This happened to me a few years ago and some kindly member suggest that I enter the tracking number into the PayPal record and that worked.  However, now that I'm on managed payments, I don't have that option.

Does anyone here have any suggestions as to how I can handle this? Thanks.

Nope. Without PayPal, you’re stuck with either shipping both items separately or taking your chances on one item without tracking info.

Although I don’t know what would happen if the buyer ends up filing INR for the one without tracking and you just enter the tracking number in the INR case. Would it reject it?

@yarn-explosion

If they ordered from 2 different accounts, you need to ship the orders separately.

Have a great day.

Re: Tricky add tracking problem

Go to your orders awaiting shipment. Check off the ones to combine. From the dropdown menu select print shipping labels or invoices.

On the next screen choose to print shipping labels. The next screen will show the orders to combine. Combine them, make sure the weights are correct and then you can combine them all in one shipment with one shipping label.

Re: Tricky add tracking problem

Aren’t you only allowed to do this if the buyer used the same account for both purchases? Or does ebay not look at the account name and just as long as the shipping address and name match each other? I can’t test this as I currently don’t have this scenario in my awaiting shipments page.

Re: Tricky add tracking problem

I had the identical thing happened, two accounts, husband and wife, same shipping address. Ebay wont allow the tracking # to be entered for the other item, however, you can enter it on the notes parts, and that will be just for your own records only. You should, at the very least, notify the buyer(s) that you've combined their orders and give them the tracking #.

Take care.

As far as I know it's same ID only.

I would never, ever combine purchases from different accounts with the same address together, be it husband/wife, guest IDs, etc.

Re: Tricky add tracking problem

We had this happen recently - gal purchased 3 items on 3 separate orders.  Two were the same ID, 1 was not.  MP allowed us to combine the 2 purchased separately, but from the same ID.  The 3rd one, we ended up shipping solo as it would not take the tracking, no matter what we did.

We emailed the buyer to expect 2 parcels and wrote on the outside of the parcels, "Shipment 1 of 2, Shipment 2 of 2", so she would not get them and think we forgot an item, in case she never read her emails from us and/or the parcels showed up at different times (which they did).  As soon as one delivered, we emailed her to remind her Parcel #2 was due any day.

Good luck!

Re: Tricky add tracking problem

Whoops, my bad. I just re-read the OP and realized the purchases were made on two separate accounts.
