Too much misinformation......please Review/Evaluate all user help replies.

There were at least 4 wrong replies to this post (on another ebay help forum)

"...Okay I've got a question, I paid for shipping label on 12 Oz product and box was 6x6x6. Said label cost was $4.84 and printed out packing slip. On packing slip it says shipping cost was $10. So I checked the weight and dimensions again and even canceled label just to be sure. And it does it again, this happened on two of my items and the rest were fine. Anyone have this issue before and know why it does this? Any help is appreciated..."

(highlights added by me)

the answers ran the gamut from "you didn't pass on the ebay discount" to you "charged Priority and used Media Mail" to "Why did you charge $10 when it was 4.84? to "The shipping should have changed to what you charged for the label"

OMG

The simplicity of the question....I, once again, am testing my faith in human intellectual prowess......

If you ask a question, please do not take the first answer you see....at least get a couple similar responses to draw a conclusion.

This is what is probably happening. (Without seeing the listing, I'm hypothesizing.)

The packing slip shows the amount the buyer paid. The listing probably has a $10 shipping fee. The cost of the label is less and the extra amount paid by the buyer can be handling fees.

Monica......from what you describe, the $10 was what  the buyer was charged (probably the retail rate).... $4.84 was what ebay charged you.......with the discount which probably reflected the cubic foot rate...  That cubic foot rate is not available to buyers when they purchase.

@monica-sells Testing MY faith in those that ask for help hoping that they, at the very least, give the required information to get an intelligent response.

With that said- why don't you just give us the listing number or the description so we can look at the listing.

People that ask for help giving less than half the required information are going to get an entire slew of 'guesses' and that will be your answer.

A bunch of guesses!!

The last 5 things you sold dating back to Feb 28 (2 months ago) shows 'Free' Shipping, so there would not be anything shown (unless you are also selling on a different account)

The LAST thing that had a 'Shipping Charge' was Feb 16 (6 weeks ago) and it shows $10.67 from you in Ohio to me in Nevada.

I don't see anything sold with a $4.55 'shipping charge', but it could be you are using calculated shipping and the buyer was closer than me for an item that shows me $5+.

I agree with the others, It must be buyers cost VS seller cost that you are seeing.

"Don't believe everything you read on the internet" has been common knowledge pretty much since the internet was created.

The packing slip is a record for the buyer for what they paid to you. You charged them $10 for shipping.

You paid ebay $4.84 to ship, using their label.

I do not include the price on the packing slip-I mark it as a gift because they can go to their account to see the price. Many times, the packing slips I see from other companies do not have a price since the packing slip should be a list of the contents of the package.

I use the gift format of packing slip as well, because all I really need there is a list of the items in the package and a backup copy of the Ship-To: and Return addresses in case the outside label gets damaged.

Plus, the gift format of packing slip uses less depth of printing on the 8½"x11" paper, leaving me enough room on the bottom half to print the Shipping label. (I do not use the Receipt option when printing the label.)

I cut the excess whitespace off the bottom half of the packing slip and drop the remainder of the sheet back into the printer, in order to print the label once I have the package sealed up and ready to go.

Are there some wrong answers here on the forums?  Of course.  Is it a common problem?  I wouldn't say so, from my experience.  Usually they get corrected by other posters fairly quickly if I do see them.

So ultimately, the OP of that thread was wondering why the "packing label" said $10 next to shipping cost, yet had only paid $4.84 in actual shipping costs for the label...then mistakenly thought that was the price paid for the label and cancelled it, twice...not sure I even saw this thread or not...now I have to go look...🤔

Thank you for some correct answers....

to reiterate, this was NOT ME...this post was copied from another forum, as were the multitude of incorrect answers.....

I was pointing out the packing slip has no, none, nada, zero relationship to what the seller actually paid for the label, it is what the buyer PAID for the label, which can't be changed on a PACKING SLIP or BILL OF SALE.

Good for you. That's doesn't answer the OP's question.

The buyer didn't pay for the label. The seller did. The buyer paid a little over double what the seller was actually charged for creating that label. If you want a document that says to the buyer, you paid me $10 but it only cost me $4.84 to ship this item to you, then you will have to create that yourself. Ebay doesn't have that tool. I, for one, would not want to tell a buyer that they overpaid me for shipping. Use the gift option and don't include a packing slip, as others suggested.

If you want to see the cost of the shipping labels as a seller, you can find them in your hub under sales. It's in the graphs and breakdowns.

I'm just wondering, why would you want your seller costs on a buyer's packing slip?
