Time Auction Ends is INCORRECT, what the F*&^%&*!

I understand different people are in different time zones.

Please explain this to me:

i am on MY EBAY, looking at my own listing overview, it says ITEM ENDS in 3 HOURS 20 MINUTES

(Yes i did refresh the page a few times)

I go TO that specific listing, it is counting down, 16 minutes REMAINING !

So, not only is the time stated OFF by 3 hours for the time zone, it is also off by a few minutes as well.

Side note - it should NEVER be off 3 hours for time zone.  if it says the time, state which zone.  if it says TIME REMAINING that should be accurate for everyone no matter where you are!

So you are saying, "ok who cares?!"

it was a $400 item selling for $45 with (12) people WATCHING.  I am surprised and disappointed that nobody bid more.  I wonder if they look at THEIR watchlist overview and it was off 3 hours so they never bothered to click on the specific Item.

There have been problems with the time ending shown in the my eBay page for months now.  It's correct on the item listing however.    Most buyers use a snipe service anyway so it does not matter.

You have several options to avoid this problem. You can list your item as an auction with a reserve price (the lowest price you’re willing to sell for). You can have an auction where your opening bid is the lowest price you’re willing to sell for. Or, you can list your item as a BIN with a price that is acceptable to you.

Although I have a few items list as auctions, I prefer the BIN method. It gets rid of the non-paying bidders and reduces the number of scammers.

One fix could be to check the time on your Computer or Device and make sure it is accurate - Its not too hard to change the time on your devices accidentally - I have done this same thing in the past that left me wondering until I discovered the time on my device was off by minutes or hours... Hope this helps

My thoughts also. Is your computer set with the correct date, time and timezone offset? There are a few eBay pages that show you a relative time remaining, and appear to be keyed off your own computer's time setting rather than the actual time obtained from the Internet.

Thank you all for the suggestions.  i will try to find joy in the one buyer who will  be happy.  Ebay makes it so hard to contact any live person so i am not going to care about this any longer.  Even if i did contact Ebay there would be no way to explain that i have been harmed.  it would be nice to just hear one live person say, "Yes, our clocks are all wrong and we don't care about you"

Note - 9 MORE VIEWS on my item AFTER IT ENDED.   These COULD NOT BE NEW CUSTOMERS or people just browsing.  These are the WATCHERS coming back wondering what the heck happened.

Good evening to all - or maybe its MORNING, who knows?!?!  hahahahahaha     🙂

If your computer's time zone is set incorrectly, even if your time is displayed correctly you can run into these sorts of problems.

Many computers are manufactured or set up for a Pacific time zone, and not every user changes the time zone when getting a new computer; it is possible to manually change the time so it displays correctly even though the time zone is not set properly. This can cause all sorts of problems including inability to get needed updates.

Check your computer's time here:

Burt,

when i click on your link it first says this:

Your clock is 2 hours, 58 minutes and 2.7 seconds ahead.

then below that it says the correct time, 3:05 and that correct time matches what it says on my toolbar on the bottom of my screen.  How do you interpret this?

To Everyone,

YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BELIEVE THIS - the 9 more views were people BIDDING.  My item sold for $150 as i was hoping for.  This occured all while my computer was telling me it ended.  I withdraw my complaints, lol.

That would indicate to me that your time zone is set incorrectly, and the time has been manually adjusted to display within a couple of minutes of the actual time despite this.

Go to your computer's Settings and check your Date and Time to correct your Time Zone setting and then adjust your time and set the time to update automatically, if possible.

If you are recommending using a reserve price, you probably should explain that that option comes with an extra cost, which will be charged whether or not the item sells, and that the same goal could be accomplished at no additional cost by just setting your price at the very lowest price that would be okay with you as a seller.

"...When i go to the individual item page it is long since over.  bidding ended..."

How is this possible?

Even if your clock was set for 1923 you would not see the bidding over/closed/done page.

It is virtually impossible (in coding lingo) to see a generated page before the actual event that creates it is over.....there could have been No More Bidding if in fact you saw that page with the item sold at $45...

That is the option that I found to have been switched off on one of my older machines, which had a habit of wandering off-time, getting a little worse day by day. I finally noticed the problem when watching the countdown of an auction and noticing that it was actually ending later than what my machine had been showing.

I thought it was kind of bizarre that the computer wasn't simply getting the correct time signal off the Internet since it was connected, up and running 24/7, but it wasn't. I had to check the option box in Settings to get it to automatically synchronize itself with the rest of the world:

You mean it's not ebay's fault?    😉

Well i'm hoping that after the OP contacts ebay that they will credit him the amount of money he may have lost had those watchers had more time to bid on the item.
