Saw this message (with light red border) when checking buyer details for an item just sold.
Is this typical?
I don't recall seeing this before on previous auctions.
Is this a red flag for me as a seller?

My first thought was this was from his end-rejected by bank or credit card (because of the dollar amount), and thought I would see if the community knew for sure (because of the dollar amount). op
That's probably it then . I'd first try and contact the buyer . Tulips

If your PayPal email address does not match the one on your listing, you will receive a similar message. The message will be on eBay. There will be no indication of anything on your PayPal account. You will see nothing there, no payment.
There's one way to find out ... The OP can look in PayPal.
If the payment is there and reversed, it's a buyer thing.
If the payment is not there, then it's a seller thing.
What does the PayPal transaction look like?
@penguins_dont_fly do you know this to be true? I really want to know because I saw a similar message recently and never got an answer.

I have had rejected payments show in PayPal as "reversed" ... The items never showed as "sold" on eBay ... I just found them when doing my books or checking a different transaction.
I think it comes down to when the transaction is being declined, why and by what entity....and payment method.
For a direct Credit Card transaction (non PayPal), there are 3 points at which the transaction can be declined:
If eBay does a security check at checkout (pre PayPal), then the transaction doesn't make it to paypal and is declined immediately (no sale)
If PayPal makes the check, the transaction can be immediately declined (no transaction, no sale) or it can be caught with a delay (reverse transaction) ... If the delay is long enough, it may populate to eBay as a valid sale, only to be rejected later (we are talking seconds or minutes here).
I find it odd that there is NO PayPal transaction on the seller side, since the sale did come through ... PayPal doesn't just delete transactions 😞
I wonder if eBay is changing the way it processes non PayPal card transactions ... which is a distinct possibility with the continued roll out of Managed Payments.

Yes, this is what I was concerned about. I am wondering if the normal credit card payments that went through as PayPal guest are now being forced to the managed payments and then rejecting to any seller that takes PayPal only.

You didn''t actually ask if the community knew for sure that this was "from his end-rejected by bank or credit card (because of the dollar amount)".
You simply asked "is this a red flag for me as a seller"? 🙂

I don't sell a lot of stuff, and thought the message was unusual and came here to ask for some advice from others that may have seen this message.
And so I wondered whether to be questioning the sale.
The sale itself was an auction (not Buy-it-now) and looked as if he went to complete it (pay) and it didn't go through. Credit card thought the amount was too much? Or fraud? I think bank account payment has too much of a time gap. I don't know. But this is why ebay and paypal have been set up and are used.
