Did you mean:

This order was not successful. Payment for this order has failed.

Saw this message (with light red border) when checking buyer details for an item just sold.

Is this typical?
I don't recall seeing this before on previous auctions.

Is this a red flag for me as a seller?

You mean like don't send the item because the "buyer" can't pay for it?

Something wrong with buyer payment. It was a gift card?

Yes ... this is definitely a red flag 🙂

Your buyers payment was declined ... you have not been paid for the item.

Do NOT ship.

The PayPal transaction might give you some more information but, at this point, it really doesn't matter.

In 48 hours you can open an Unpaid Item Dispute to get your fees back.

You can then close it 96 hours after that.

Have you changed your PayPal email address recently?

If this was an email address thing, there would be no indication of payment at all on the Seller's side (or a "pending" notification)

This is not a "seller" problem. The buyer's credit card or other payment method was declined by PayPal. It might be insufficient funds, it might be unauthorized use ... PayPal won't give that information to a seller.

If the OP looks at PayPal, it will probably just say "reversed"

Usually, these get caught almost immediately by PayPal, but sometimes there is a delay, allowing the transaction to go through initially and then reversed later by PayPal.

If your PayPal email address does not match the one on your listing, you will receive a similar message.  The message will be on eBay.  There will be no indication of anything on your PayPal account.  You will see nothing there, no payment.

I did not use Paypal, used mastercard. Why did I fail to buy? Have no credit card bill for that time period, really want nice set of pearl and diamond earrings, perhaps with matching pendant. Help me fond what I need.

There's one way to find out ... The OP can look in PayPal.

If the payment is there and reversed, it's a buyer thing.

If the payment is not there, then it's a seller thing.

Your issue is not the same as the original poster's problem.

(Unless you are the OP's customer???)

The Original poster is a seller that has not received payment because the buyer's payment was declined.

As a buyer, you need to call MasterCard and find out why your payment was declined. The seller does not have that information.

If you click "Sell similar" and look at the screen there, you will see what email address you designated payment to go to.  I had a similar problem a few years ago because I removed an old email address from my PayPal account, but it was still on the listing.  So the payment did not go through.

That may or may not be the reason, but I think that is one thing that should be checked.

I did go through what you mentioned a little while back (changed my Paypal and ebay email addresses but forgot to change the email address in the actual listing)  and when the item sold it showed the payment was made but not linked to paypal (kind of stuck in a queue). I simply restored that previous email to Paypal and the payment then went through, as have my subsequent auction sales. There was never the message stated above-so I don't believe that is the situation here (I have checked Paypal email address and the email address for the listing and everything appears fine). So I would say it is not my end.

My first thought was this was from his end-rejected by bank or credit card (because of the dollar amount), and thought I would see if the community knew for sure (because of the dollar amount).

Well , wouldn't the OP / seller  have noticed that with previous transactions  if that were the case ?  I don't know  but yes it should be ruled out  first . Tulips

Is there any indication of a transaction rejecting (as @penguins_dont_fly indicated) when logging into PayPal?
