This is the reason I never automatically leave Feedback for Buyers until they receive the item

Item #273478756869 - The John Lennon Collection by John Lennon (CD, Oct-1989)

I received a refund request from a buyer who claimed she ordered an LP, not a CD.   She claims that I sent her the wrong item and is "not as described."   I shipped her a CD.  Why?  Because the title states it is a CD.  The description states that it is a CD.  The photo clearly shows that it is a CD in a jewel case, not a cardboard sleeve.

This is exactly why I never leave feedback for someone right away just because they paid for it.  I am reluctantly issuing a full refund, including her shipping.  Ebay rep said that when I receive it back, they will issue me a refund on the return shipping fee I had to pay for.

Buyers takes no responsibility for their obvious mistake and gets a full refund.

But, I don't understand what "feedback" for a buyer has to do with anything the buyer does after paying.

I thought we should use feedback for buyers the way which is most beneficial to the SELLER.  How can "not giving the buyer feedback quickly" be beneficial to the seller?

You've asked this question and had it answered for you many times over. I am fairly certain that it is your only topic. Instead of our answering it for you yet again, perhaps you could first tell us what you believe the answer is, from any previous thread of yours where you were asking the same thing. In your opinion, what reason(s) might there be for a seller to wait until the buyer leaves feedback for the transaction?

"In your opinion, what reason(s) might there be for a seller to wait until the buyer leaves feedback for the transaction?"

I have seen sellers give many REASONS why they wait until the buyer leaves feedback.  Examples:  They would regret giving a positive to a buyer who later tried to cheat the seller;  They do not think it is right  for a buyer who tried to cheat to have a positive.

But the only BENEFIT some sellers say they receive by waiting to leave feedback for the buyer is that it causes some buyers to leave positive feedback who would not have left feedback if the seller had given feedback at payment.  I guess they have more customers who desire more feedback than customers who dislike the seller withholding the feedback.  It may work for them, but research has show that the great majority of sellers get more feedback when they leave feedback at payment.

Very few sellers say they receive any benefit at all by withholding feedback until the buyer leaves feedback.  Since they say they receive no benefit from it, and it causes some of their GOOD customers to be displeased,  that is not the results I want from the feedback for buyers program.

"How is a buyers feedback from a seller ever beneficial to the seller since the seller cannot leave anything but positive feedback?"

There are 4 ways sellers receive benefits from leaving feedback as soon as the seller ships.  These are not just my opinions - they are proven facts.

Here are the ways the seller benefits:

1.  The seller sells more items (eBay says some buyer will not buy again when the seller does not leave feedback).

2.  The seller receives more positive feedback (Some buyers will not leave feedback if the seller does not leave feedback eBay says).

3.  The seller never receives bad feedback or low ratings from a buyer who is dissatisfied when a seller does not leave feedback.

4.  The seller does not receive as much neutral or negative feedback or low ratings from a buyer who thinks the item was not as described, or from slow shipping.  Buyers are more likely to give bad feedback or low ratings when they are dissatisfied with TWO things about the seller than if they are dissatisfied with only ONE thing.

5.  OTHER sellers benefit because when more sellers leave feedback,  more buyers will leave feedback.   When sellers do not participate, that will cause some buyers to not participate as much.

Tell me more about the research that has shown that the great majority of sellers get more feedback when they leave feedback at payment.

Who did this research?

Especially since sellers who leave feedback for every  buyer after they pay report only receiving 20% - 30% feedback.

You can always "Follow up to Feedback Left For Others" if buyer turns out to be a scammer, but not in this case for sure.

And what kind of "followup feedback" would that be?

You can leave a buyer nothing but positive.

Positive means.......  positive comments as well as the (+) rating.

Those aren’t proven facts. As always that is your sole opinion.

Yup. I did that (gave him the item free--and it wasn't cheap) because he claimed it was not "new," when I distinctly said in the description it was not new. Then he says, oh, he didn't read that part. But because I was afraid of negative feedback, I told him to keep it. disgusting.

Now that I'm thinking about it, a reason might be because the buyer can receive nothing but positive feedback?? (it's ridiculous...as far as I am concerned, but as my aunt says -- "That's the way it is.")

Right now I'm waiting for the buyer to give ME positive feedback, then I'll give him feedback. (Nothing but positive, of course, LOL!)

If you choose to buy your feedback, that is up to you.

When buyer is not happy, even if it is their fault, "return for refund" is the way unless you feel the item is cheap enough to give away.

I just received another email from the buyer.  She said "not to bother with the refund.  I will look for the LP somewhere else."    I had already sent her the label to return it for free. OP

Hopefully she'll find a good pair of reading glasses  too . 🙂   Tulips

Yep ,, at least in my experience . Only a fraction take the time to leave feedback  but I always  cherish the ones who do. Another thing I've noticed though ,, sometimes feedback will appear  weeks after delivery . I think these ones happen  when  previous buyers come back to e bay to shop for something else . Tulips

You're right, but I was so disgusted I tried to be nice, U felt like saying something else, and didn't want the hassle. In the future, however, I'll work more with it. But I was afraid he'd give me bad report. Then what?
