This is probably a silly question so please don't crucify me if it is...

I am looking to get out of eBay. I have half a mind to make a post here saying I am liquidating my inventory pointing to the store on my selling account so any interested people who are reading here can just go straight to my store and look through what I got. I bet making such a post would violate some rule or other. I am not attempting to sell off the eBay site (heresy!)  Just want to funnel traffic to my store to have a speedy liquidation. But I hestitate because I am wondering if making a liquidation announcement on the community forum would get my accounts all-together suspended prematurely and complicate the liquidation process...this account is a forums posting account. Not my selling account.

Read the info at the link provided (also available through the "Guidelines" link at the top of the page). Advertising your stuff is a violation of board policy, regardless of your reasons for selling.

Just put liquidation or fire sale in your title and those interested will find it.

you could always put liquidation prices on things and people will find them. An overpriced item with @@SALE@@ in the title means nothing.

Actually putting any special characters significantly reduces ur placement in search. So you definitely don't want to do that. They also have a rating for "all caps" in their sellers health reports.

The all caps thing was a Google issue.  Google returns don't like words repeated in the titles nor do they like more than 3 or 4 words in capital letters.  Not sure if it is still that way, but it is a rule I've just always followed.

Besides all caps can be hard to read on some screens.  As well as in the typed out language, it means you are yelling.  Having a couple of capitalized words means you are adding emphasis to the words, all caps it annoying and doesn't look good either.

Does "any special characters" mean anything but A-Z a-z and 0-9? Are $ ! # * " . - / ( _ ) ' ¢ \ also frowned upon?

I can see that you have 8 paring knives left. It shouldn't too hard to sell the remaining 8. Good luck to you.

I didn't know that, I've always put my listing titles in all caps.

You can do a google search on typing in all caps.  There actually has been research done on the subject.  To some readers it makes your words appear to run together is a big thing but the more important one is it denotes yelling with everything is in caps.

As for the info on what the Google engine wants, many things could have changed since the last time I looked at what they want and don't want.  But not putting more than 3 words in my titles in capital letters has served me for years, so I continue to do that.  I've had many compliments over the years that my listing are easy to read.  I've always appreciated those emails as it was refreshing to hear from a buyer that actually reads the listing.  LOL

Good luck and I'm glad you found the information interesting.

Oh and when I pick what words to capitalize, I pick the most important words.  Like on my fragrances, I pick the name of the scent to be capitalized, not the name of the designer.  With my craft stuff it is the actual name of what I'm selling not the other words I use to describe it.  Things like that.  If you want any suggestion, feel free to ask.

Yes, ebay site coding is from the late 90s early 00s and can barely handle alt characters like umlauts and symbols.

Google will find you just fine though. Up to you to decide which is more important.

Some of my titles I use special charaters "~" to be specific and some I don't.  For me, I have not had any search issues because of it that I'm aware of.  Nor have a couple other sellers that I'm aware of that use a special character consistently in their titles.  So maybe this is an older issue that no longer exists.  I don't know for sure, I can only speak to my personal experience.
