This is absurd! How is a Bluegrass record 'HATEFUL & DISCRIMINATORY' ???

I've been selling vinyl records in here for 20 years. I'm not going to comment on the person who felt it was warranted to 'report' my listing, but more so on the EBAY EMPLOYEE who looked at it and felt that this item should be removed.
Can't they use common sense ?? It's a RECORD!

The title of the listing : "COUNTRY GENTLEMEN - 'Johnny Reb/Buffalo Girls' 1968 Unplayed Country 45 on Rebel"

Rebel is a world-renowned music company that has specialized in bluegrass music for over 70 years.

I guess it's no surprise that the link on the 'message from Ebay' about this regarding "questions? contact us" takes me to a page about hazardous materials not allowed through the mail...and absolutely nothing else.

Oh, and where's my 15 cent credit for this auction listing since it's removal was baseless and unwarranted?

@turquoisetulips

You can start an internet protest and see if it grows into the millions. If it does, those millions can go ahead and block our highways and burn our towns protesting until something is done about it. After that, Ebay will follow suit and ban that music that promotes racism, sexism and horrific violence.

The policy has nothing to do with the Civil War. It is because some alt right hate groups have taken and used the confederate flag like the Nazis took the swastika. Don't blame eBay for what the Neo-Nazis and KKK have done, the ban would never have happened if it were not for these hate groups.

Well, actually it does have something to do with the Civil War, otherwise no one would be tearing down statues of Robert E. Lee.

Basically the flawed line of thinking is that owning, seeing, displaying, or selling anything that represented or glorified the Confederacy or its leaders of 160 years ago is a present-day endorsement / advocacy for returning to slavery.

Of course anyone can tell you, the Duke boys and Uncle Jesse always helped out the black folks in their struggles with the rednecks who ran Hazard County, but it does not matter, they are now the "black hats" in this story since they had the wrong flag painted on the roof of their car... no need for substance, everything in pop culture modern society is about the symbolism... you don't go volunteer at the soup kitchen, you buy a $25 t-shirt that says "Feed the Poor" so everyone will know that you care.

Or start a Twitter campaign.

Another inane eBay policy. The Civil War is part of our American History. There should be zero reason why a Confederate Flag on a old record is an issue with anyone, unless their relatives fought on the other side.
That's just great. I sell a ton of military items and have had and do have items with this flag on it currently up. More sitting here too.
Stupid policy eBay. The Civil War is American History, wow, shaking my head.

A few days ago a seller was here with the same issue with her Hindu pieces being pulled because they showed a swastika. In Hinduism, the right-hand (clockwise) swastika is a symbol of the sun and the god Vishnu, while the left-hand (counterclockwise, called sauvastika) swastika represents the goddess Kali, night, and magic. The auspicious symbol of the swastika is very commonly used in Hindu art, architecture and decoration.

I am in the same boat as you are as I also deal in vinyl and have several copies of that 45 and others from the label. But I understand that you can sell these if you cover the symbol or flag. Post-it's are good for this I just cut a small square from the sticky end, it does not damage the record or leave a residue. ( I have has some pulled for nudity, too).  (the record, not me)

Except someone earlier in this thread said Ebay frowns on altered items (or photos) because it's not an exact replica of what people are going to get.
That's silly too.

If I thought they would have pulled my listing because of this beforehand, I most certainly would have altered the photos. I had 4 other singles on Rebel up when this happened and naturally, I took them down. I don't care if I sell them or not. I have 20,000 other records to sell and I'm almost 70, so I'll just toss them.

I never expected all of these responses to my original post either, but I guess the thing that bothers me is the 'hateful and discriminatory' blotch on my record in here. I've been selling on Ebay for almost 20 years. I only put those records up because I'm at the letter 'R' in my collection (sorted by label).

And I'm still bothered by the terminology in the rules against "promoting" hatred/bigotry etc. I'm still confused as to why two flags on a bluegrass record label would be considered "promoting". Especially when that wasn't the original intent of the label when they were originally pressed back in the 60's, either.

So, that includes 'this' listing too? There are a number of copies of this being sold:

The biggest difference here is that the seller posting that other item has 62k feedback making them likely one of ebay's pet Titanium Level sellers. they don't have to follow the same rules you and I do.

Nah ,, I wouldn't bother with something like that and I don't think I'm alone with those sentiments   regarding just the general public  . I was mainly just curious why some things are so offensive to some of the fringe  in our society [ who are more than willing to go to those extremes you mentioned ]  while they seemingly couldn't care any less  over others that are at least just as bad or even  worse .  I guess it all depends  on whether or not  the  complainers feel personally targeted  .
