I am thinking about throwing in the towel as well. I have been working my tail end off but all the returns, cancels, fees, postage increases are driving my share down to next to nothing! I think I have actually lost money in January so far! Now granted some of it it my own fault as I have been trying to list so much that I have made several errors in my listings and gotten a few returns on that but a lot of the returns are not my fault and the quantity has gotten out of control!
The problem is I have been at it so long now I just dont know what I will do if I quit. I have been working on couponing and cutting monthly expenses but I cant afford to keep at Ebay much longer. I am literally terrified of taking on a part time job. Those of you out there that have quit what are you now doing with your time post Ebay? Do you end up spending more money on activities now?

Well... me and Little Dog spend a lot of time dancing, and drinking...
I put on her favorite... 3 Dog Night... We rock this house.
And then I get to play a song.... we take turns...
And then I write goofy stories.... but I ain't no quitter...

It had nothing to do with Meg leaving, it has more to do with Google cutting off the free search result gravy train of eBay's glory days, now it is pay to play and eBay is not paying.

In my opinion, clothing is a tough sell due to many factors of indecision from the buyer. I sell a name brand, but I do not take returns. I have a limited amount of clothing mixed with vintage as a small small seller. I have thought of other avenues, but with turtle slow sales it does not seem to throw good money after bad.
When I manage to clean out the expensive stuff I am done as my generation of interest has NO followers.
Try no returns, and add a different line of items to appeal to a cross-section of buyers.
Good Luck

I really enjoy selling on ebay, and hope to be successful because I truly love selling here. Do what you love and enjoy life.

Yes, USPS with eBay getting 10% of the cut are going to keep jacking up the prices and shrink thin margins to the point where if you are not selling thousands of items per week you have a snowball chance in hell of making money on eBay.
...and you can only sell thousands per week with the lowest cost and very hot items which means you have to buy container loads to make money.
Who is going to tie up 200 grand to do that ?

You have every look of success as a seller. Follow some suggestions from other posters to make it easier, but keep your options open. My opinion only.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing. Sells have dropped off of a cliff and I've had to drop prices to a point that I'm barely making a profit. People seem to watch and not but. A lot of those watchers are other sellers I bet That plus increased postage is driving me away from selling. I haven't gotten any sales at all from my other sales venues either. I do have higher priced items to sale but I'm afraid of being scammed and Ebay taking the scammer's side.
I'll give it until the end of this month or sometime next month. After that I'm pulling my stock off of ebay.

I've been here since 2000 but stopped selling in 2008 after the feedback change. Some thought I was nuts but after a few attempts at feedback extortion I decided it was no longer gonna be worth the hassles. That said, I remained a fairly heavy buyer for a number of years buying a couple hundred items a year. That buying has tailed off considerbly to the point that I haven't bought 12 items in the last year. Ebay has chased away most of the sellers that I bought from and the very few that remain have drastically changed the product lineup and/or bumped prices up to the point that I no longer bother to look.
What do I do post Ebay.....well for one I SPOIL MY GRANDKIDS SILLY....and then send them home. LOL

Yes, I guarantee the majority of watchers are your competition! They have the same thing and want to see if yours sells and for how much. Others may genuinely be interested and uncertain, while others are waiting for your to drop the price down to nothing! It's interesting that I seem to get more sales on items with no or very few watchers, versus those with many. I find the high number of watchers the equivalent of rubberneckers! It's also why I never use the relist item feature when reposting, I use sell similar. I figure if the watchers didn't buy when the item was active they weren't serious prospects and I prefer to repost fresh.
I loved seeing USPS offer such reasonable postage for up to 15.99 oz FCM, but I knew it was too good to be true, since they've hiked that price 15%! A first class pkg is more now than what I quoted in my other post for up to 2 lbs Priority anywhere ($3.95). Granted that was probably 15 or so years ago, but the price hike shouldn't be that high in just a decade and a half, it's gone up over 300%! Can you imagine how much we could sell if Priority packages were still that inexpensive!! It would be amazing! (I try to sell items that mainly qualify for First Class in order to keep costs down, but that's very limiting and the lighter weight pkgs have increased 100% in less than 2 yrs).
The writing was on the wall when USPS went to the complicated zone pricing and the crazy first class assortments, I still can't remember all the requirements of that mess! I guess USPS has never heard of KISS (Keep it simple stupid), they're more like MIFC (Make it Freaking Complicated) or select your fav adjective....confusing, complex, convoluted, crazy!!

Years ago USPS was begging for the business, now that they have it they are going to rake in billions more and still claim they are losing money, funny how that happens !!!
