Think I messed up!

Had 7 bidders on my iPhone. Listing ended. The buyer paid via PayPal. He had 100% positive feedback.  PayPal held money since I was a new seller. To get money quicker paypal said ship item and give tracking number. Ok done. Shipped item out, shipped at 10am. 430pm. eBay emails me and says that the account that purchased my item was unauthorized.  Great!  So I hurried up and did a USPS intercept. So far it made it to the desination facility. Ugh. If it ends up getting delivered. Will the USPS insurance I bought cover this?  I’m hoping the intercept works and it gets mailed back to me.

I called eBay. They told me to refund the payment. Which I did because it was most likely fraudulent. So I no longer that the $330

Did you tell the csr it said ok to ship and you had already done so?

Re: Think I messed up!

Ohiobids, what several of us are saying is that the message you got that "the funds are pending in paypal until you mark it as shipped and enter the tracking number" was actually a message from the scammer instead of a message from paypal.

Re: Think I messed up!

It wasn’t an email. I know better than that. I was IN MY ACUTAL PAYPAL ACCOUNT. OK TO SHIP W/ bold big red letters PAYMENT ON HOLD. I filed the intercept soon as I found out all of this. I shipped at 10AM. By 430PM I did the intercept. I’m tracking monitoring. It’s boincing all over New Jersey. I’m gonna call the facility tomorrow to tell them here’s the intercept order number. Tracking number. Try to get it before it’s loaded.

And you guys are wrong about that. How more times does the OP need to say that he checked his paypal account and it was Ok to ship before everyone gets it?  he was paid. He didn't get a fake paypal email. Sorry if I came off harsh.

Re: Think I messed up!

Thank you Jen! I mean I've come to the terms that I'll be out the phone. Lesson learned. The hard way. Would of been nice to have the extra cash. We all make mistakes once right?!

Have you filed the Package Intercept request on-line yet? It costs you nothing to do so if they're unable to recover your package (which, by rights, they should be able to do, as it has not been delivered yet, according to the tracking). If they do recover it, it costs you $13.45 + Priority shipping, which is a darn sight better than throwing $330 out the window any day.

No problem! Yes we all mistakes but I have hope you will get the phone Back. You filed the intercept and you have a plan to contact the buyers PO so fingers crossed the intercept is successful! I am so sorry this happened. You tried to do the right thing.

Re: Think I messed up!

Not sure if this was mentioned yet but if the worst possibility happens at least brick the phone so the scammer does not benefit from it.

that is excellent advice. The minute that phone shows delivered call and get it bricked if you can.

Re: Think I messed up!

"There have always been dishonest people out there, but the Internet brought them out in droves."

So true @emerald40  and eBay? opened the flood gates & gave the scammers the ability to make the most of it  (with up to 8 accounts)  so by all means block the one in question, but keep an eye out for the other 7...for 30 days...once every 30 days Smiley Frustrated  then (again, thanks to eBay) know that scum & bag Smiley Wink can change username Smiley Sad

AH yes people, truly eBay is a scammers best friend.

"And do know that cellphones are scam magnets"

Absolutely emerald...think small...expensive, and in demand...on eBay?, and think (seriously now @ohiobids75) that as a seller, you can expect very little if any help from eBay CS, and/or that even bigger joke, called Trust & Safety. You can  however expect to be told any old guff  by either department, cos words come cheap, and you can expect eBay to side with a buyer as a matter of policy no matter what, I kid you not.

And finally

WHAT the HELL are you guys trying to do to li-vince?, work it ter death?

Smiley LOL

By my calculation, there was a series of 49 independent, careful hunt-and-peck updates, from 12:16 to 12:26 today, just to get that done, but I think we can all agree that the world is now a better place.

Same day? I would have called the PO where it was dropped off immediately after filing the intercept. They might have been able to pull the package if it hadn't gone out on the truck yet.

Why was the OP told to refund the payment when they had already shipped? brian@ebay

That tag won't go through. I keep getting a spinning circle if I try to tag someone.
