Think I'm about to get scammed - what should I know/what can I do?

tl;dr - sold my iPad Pro via auction to a US buyer. Shipped right afterwards and did the insurance/signature required. Buyer just contacted me saying that he didn't receive the iPad, only a keyboard, asking "if I made a mistake". Nothing has been claimed yet, but I'm assuming this is the first leg of a scam.

I have the funds in my PayPal account from the sale but they are on hold pending delivery.

Do I have any recourse on this?

So eBay's de facto policy is that you can get anything you want on the site for free?

Pretty much but they recently implemented better seller protection so ask for pics and definitely contact ebay

Update on this - I sent a message to the seller after their initial response saying that I had video recorded the entire handoff at FedEx, and to please take photos of the box so I could submit a fraud claim to FedEx. I never heard back from them and the payment went through after the hold from PayPal.

The original payment went through on Nov. 11 but was subjected to a hold. It finally released yesterday and is in my PayPal account.

My question - how do I know when I'm "in the clear"? If this is a fraudulent buyer, can they claw the money back at this point?

If the buyer paid with PayPal they have 180 days to file an item not as described claim. If they paid with their credit card the window to file a chargeback will vary. eBay gives the buyer a 30 day window from date of delivery.

Basically- you're not "in the clear" for 6 months in many cases.

Hopefully your reply scared the buyer off if they were a scammer. If they take any further action or reply with info then come back here for advice.

Transfer the money to your bank account immediately. The money isn't safe until it's in your bank.
