Can anyone please help with this problem? A prospective buyer asks a question and all I get is the response above even though the person asks the question in the last day or two. I am loosing business over this and I can't contact e-bay as they are a secret society. I have been buying and selling since 1998.

If this is internal (on the "My Messages" page within ebay, and you are logged into your account...I am not sure
On occasion, I will inadvertently try to answer a question that I was alerted to via email (through ebay messaging) and I am logged into the other account. When that happens i see that error message (I hit reply, but I am logged in to my other account, not the account the message was generated from)

Temporary solution....
Instead of responding to the question try sending a new message to the buyer using the contact link on their feedback page.
I usually get this message when I'm logged in with the wrong id or sometimes if I'm logged out completely due to inactivity.

This is a well-known bug that eBay can't seem to fix. Just go to your email & answer it from there. I have provided them with numerous examples & FYI @slippinjimmy I get it frequently & I am always logged in & with the correct info. I can never predict when I will get it & when I won't but I get it around guesstimate -50% of the time. Their only "solution" was to clear cache & cookies 😑
I don't see it much anymore cuz I gave up & just answer everything from the email.
ETA: It's been happening for around a year & there have been numerous threads & examples provided.

I generally just reply either by using the email or the message in eBay messages. I can never get it to work by trying to answer through the listing. I get the message you describe when I try doing that.
