The more categories and sub categories the better

What I notice is that besides eBay removing important browsing and impulse buying categories, I also notice a lack of sufficient sub categories. For instance, under Victorian trade cards there are only about 5 sub categories and then the word "other". This must be frustrating to the over 50,000 collectors of Victorian trade cards in the U.S. I can easily add 5 more sub categories and also vastly improve the browsing experience which is what most buyers do because I'm very knowledgable about collectibles, antiques, sports memorabilia etc.. I also know that item specifics will never replace categories for most buyers and some of the item specifics are redundant, misleading, ridiculous and tedious.

I collect Victorian trade card albums. I did a search today with NO tweaking.

Do you know when i do a simple search Victorian Trade card album I get 13 items under auction ONLY 130 when search all. When I do same search with tradecard together I get 25 all and 3 auction.

This is so sad! I remember when there were 100's upon 100's.

The more categories and sub categories the better

I have been wishing for years that eBay would get rid of the subcategories under Music Memorabilia. 

I bet no one goes to eBay and thinks "I wonder what memorabilia there is for artists whose names begin with R who do not have their own sub-category?" and then browses 12,000 listings under Entertainment Memorabilia>Music Memorabilia > Rock & Pop > Artists R > Other Rock & Pop Artists R. 

If they want Roxy Music memorabilia, I bet they type "Roxy Music" into the search box. 

I would love to see it all rolled up under one category for Entertainment Memorabilia>Music Memorabilia with a required item specific for Artist.

Agreed. Not only does it make things next to impossible to find as a buyer if someone puts something in the "wrong" category, it's terrible as a seller when you're trying to decide between four different categories to list an item under if all of them would be equally valid.

In my experience as both a buyer and a seller, people either look for specific things ("Pikachu plush") or things within fairly narrow parameters ("women's sleeveless orange mock turtleneck") the same way they do on Google or any other search engine. Item specifics are far more useful for helping people narrow down what they're looking for as opposed to categories, which are utterly useless if people don't put things in the "right" categories.

It appears to me they intend to use the item specifics to replace the categories.  You'll check boxes off on the side to filter your search results based on those specifics.
