The Power of Design

Never underestimate the power of graphic design. I believe a store that puts real effort into their branding, graphic design, and overall aesthetic is more likely to be viewed as a trustworthy and legitimate seller. Do you agree? Please add your 2 cents, as I'd love to get some feedback. Thank you and GO SELL!

Some crooks make themselves look good and some do not. Pretty graphics does not make a person trustworthy or ethical.

I agree.  I think it helps sales both online and in a real store.

I think it's more important to have items for sale.  You have none.

I agree, it will attract more customers and give them more confidence to buy.  That's why the best scam artists leverage this to their advantage and you have to be so careful not to be sucked in by them.

Honestly every seller is not a scammer. I think an attractive store will make the seller feel good about their business and hopefully the buyer. Yes there are dishonest people, I am in the middle of dealing with one buyer for a $2000 item, but in my 22 years, they are few and far between.

I agree, most are honest.  All I am saying is you can't tell a book from its cover, and any more it is becoming harder and harder to do so, especially for that one that may be a scammer, and not just here on ebay.

I am a shopper and really don't get impressed by the graphic designs, and doesn't make me trust the site more, I experience the functionality of the site, I want easy search, out of stock items are not displayed, clear shipping/return policy, and of course reputation, but not the hoopla around graphics.

I think if you're going to post a comment like this one, it might be a good idea to have something for sale.  I used to have a boss who would tell me..."Anyone can make S*** look good, but in the end, it's still s***." I think what a seller displays in a listing needs to be exactly what the customer receives, no make up or photo shop or whatever.  Honesty is a must as a seller.  Period.

eBay has them all,  from highly professional sellers to those with zero sales experience. A cohesive design presentation certainly does not impede commerce.

With a visual medium like eBay, good graphics may well help sales significantly. But it is just one factor in the selling equation. Choice of items, price, shipping costs, terms of sales, etc.—there are multiple angles to consider.

For my business, i employ the usual marketing techniques, branded graphics being one.

Personally, I'm information oriented. I just want to see the photos and read about the condition. Anything else is just background to me. Some designs are so busy, they're distracting.

Maybe I'm just an old plain jane fuddy-duddy, but I don't care about flashy graphics.  All I need is clear photos of the item I'm buying and a description of the item I'm buying, preferably in plain old black type - no weird colors, no borders, no designs, no weird font types.

To me, simple and plain is very aesthetically pleasing.

I’d put all the effort into listings over anything else.  Are you really paying a store fee with zero listed? When I shop, I rarely  look or pay any attention to a store or the graphics.

I totally agree after being here as a seller for over 23 years. Store logo is also important. I sell under several ID's. Being professional ALWAYS helps. First impressions as they state. Anyone that doesn't understand being able to look professional in any business doesn't really understand being successful. There are plenty of Freelancers worldwide that work dirt cheap. I got a beautiful logo graphic made for less than $75 for one of my other id's. Competition is fierce in anything you sell online. You have to spend money to make money.  I have done millions in sales on eBay with over $200k in eBay fees alone under all of my id's. Packaging is also a pet peeve of mine. Quit repurposing packaging. It is not professional and you will look like a loser unless you sell lost cost items, then you have no choice. I only use new high-quality packaging supplies. I receive many compliments stating the best shipping of items all the time.  I even received a compliment from a professional packaging engineer in CA. If you want success in your business, operate like a business - if that is your choice.  Good day!

A bit of branding is good, but a bit goes a long way.
