The New Listing Tool - some reasons it's slower

I have been using the new tool for months and just finished a week of over 100 new listings.  Most of those were from my Templates ... but even with a lot of prefilled Item specifics and other settings the new tool on average takes 3 minutes longer than the previous Business Listing tool.

Some things I notice that slow the task down are the screen jump (happens on both Firefox and Edge browsers) and the Item specific layout and screen updating.

-SCREEN JUMP ISSUE:  When I copy the Title from the Title line to paste it int he Description window I move my cursor down the page and right click to paste.  This when the screen jumps and dumps me at the bottom of the listing tool.   Sometimes when I scroll back up it does it a second time before I can execute the paste function.

-ITEM SPECIFICS AREA:  This area is clearly designed for a mobile device because it is no longer in two columns, and each line has a set number of characters moving left to right.  When a line exceeds that count the last item "wraps" down to the next line.  This is common for the "Show all" pull down menu shown in the first pic below.  Currently they have it programmed to be at the end of the string of suggestions the AI program presents to sellers for consideration.  These will actually change at times depending on what is entered UP the tool.  Most suggestions seldom apply so typing winds up being required.

A better location for the Show all balloon would be at the beginning of each line where it applies, see pic below.  This would maintain page layout consistently and Sellers would be able to locate it quickly since it won't move around.

Screenshot (3787)-1.jpg

The next issue is how info is entered in some Item Specific fields.  There appear to be two approaches when typing is required.  One is to type what you want and then click anywhere on the tool to move to the next item.  The data you typed is recorded.  The other method is to type your info and the tool requires you to click a small "+" sign by the date below the typing field ... and if you forget to click that and move on the info is NOT recorded.  These two pics illustrate this:

Screenshot (3788).pngGenerally the "Show all" balloons have pull down menus with info in alphabetical order ...but you have to scroll down the list to find what you want.  Some of those lists do not have what you want so typing winds up being the preferred method of data entry.

Some items like MPN and UPC used to be in convenient and prominent locations at the top of the tool .... now, depending on your item they are seemingly buried in the list of Item Specifics on the left OR in the case of the UPC they have to be accessed by expanding the item specifics displayed on the screen ...

The font and size are small and thin so for me I have to look hard despite needing corrective lenses.

So using the tool requires more pointing, clicking and scrolling then the previous Business Listing tool and the process strings out listing time.

The picture uploading places the pics in the grid quickly but when Editing images it is a slow process at times.   And sometimes the pics do not upload.  With regard to image size I know eBay allows up to 7 MB per pic ... personally I think that's overkill and 3 to 4 MB would be plenty.  That change alone would allow the venue to process a whole lot less data and some pages might work faster.

As a side comment:  If the Category is changed the tool resets and you basically have to start all over.

@mr_lincoln Your diagram is for a new listing.  I was not seeing how to switch an unsold, auction style listing to GTC.  I didn't use relist as fixed price, but hit sell similar (which is what I always do).

@evry1nositswindy   When an item format is switched the original listing has to be Ended first and moves to the Unsold file.  From there I believe the tool function will be the same if one clicks the Relist function and edits to make the format change OR in your case does a Sell Similar ... which technically is a complete NEW listing.

If a member is using another Seller's listing to perform a Sell similar or Sell one like this the Tool will again open as a NEW listing but with some Pre-filled info.

I was not able to find the Immediate Payments function on my tool flow ... if it there and you found it please share a screen shot if possible ...

@mr_lincoln I found it!  There was a pop-up bubble that covered edit all options!

Just checking if you're SURE you can't switch back.  Do you not have the 3-dot thing like this (see my screenshot) on your listing screen, and if so, does clicking it not give you the option to switch back to Classic?  If not, what do you see?

I've been on the New tool lately because I've been playing around with video inclusion, but as of right now (literally right now) I can still switch back and forth.  @mr_lincoln

@mr_lincoln Immediate payment isn't near the price anymore.  Go down to Preferences> payments>payments managed by eBay.  Click on payments managed by eBay and you see this:014.JPG

@gurlcat   Yes, my flow still has the switch back to Classic but I have replied to several other threads where Sellers do not have that option.  I am committed to staying with the tool until they either fix it or roll us all back to the older Business tool ...

@evry1nositswindy   My sincere thanks for finding that ... Lots and lots of extra steps to get there, huh?!?.

Would mind terribly if I made a side comment about where they have moved that too?

Side comment:  How stupid ...

Re: The New Listing Tool - some reasons it's slower

What is especially stupid is that it takes 2-3 extra clicks to access it EVERY time you make a listing.  The most obvious simple and effective efficient way would be to have a checkbox on the main page like the classic tool- no hunting for it and jumping into popup boxes unnecessarily over and over and over and over again.

now multiply that with the condition selection, the handling charge, the shipping dimension and then the shipping selection, and on and on.....    heaven forbid if you want to change the font size in your description- that will cost you two extra confirmation clicks and a warning!

Ebay must have bought stock in a computer mouse manufacturing company because we are wearing them out using this tool

@siamjane8   That's why it takes me on average 3 minutes longer to complete listings ... the hours add up at that rate ... last week 125 PLUS listings so just using 125 x 3 Minutes -= 375 mins divided by 60 mins = 6.25 hours ... the numbers simply do not lie.

Re: The New Listing Tool - some reasons it's slower

@mr_lincoln

I mentioned that to the design teams when I had a zoom meeting with them about this tool about 4 months ago.  I said it is just impossible that its faster because of the physical actions that need to take place to complete a listing with the new tool.

I want to stress that everyone that I talked to was receptive to the feedback and genuine and open to suggestions while we spent 1.5 hours going over it but one team leader  was openly aggravated and arrogantly told me it IS faster and they have proven it and it the sellers that need to adjust how we list to see the benefit!

Im not sure if he was integral to the design and was digging his heals in but the fact that he was so standoffish was insight into the problem- he did not care if the tool worked for actual sellers.  I wont call him out by name because I do not think that would be right to do, maybe he was having a bad day or his boss was putting on the pressure because of all the bad feedback.

I just wish they would actually listen to the sellers and fix this mess-  Ebay notoriously makes changes based on some internal "great  new idea" and then deals with the fallout and patches and fixes until the new code is swiss cheese again.    It costs just a little bitty bit more to take the time to research, listen and do it right the first time, but it save millions of dollars over the the long run ( or in this case even the short run)

@siamjane8   Its hard to work with people who are obtuse and obstinate ... something like this was obviously not tested before it was rolled out and it seems it was left to Sellers to troubleshoot ...

sadly they have pushed the "enhance the Buying experience" agenda and lost sight of the fact that happy Sellers contribute more to Happy Buyers then anything they do at Home Office.  Making a Seller's task more difficult in the end is NOT enhancing the Buying experience ...

Re: The New Listing Tool - some reasons it's slower

This first time this was actually rolled out to sellers it had already been tested - I was in that testing group.  Yes, I had a lot to say about it, as did others.

Part of the problem is eBay's complicated listing structure - auctions, auctions with BIN, fixed price with and without immediate payment required, etc. etc. It's a if they don't know what to do with all of these options.  It comes down to form design (which I did as part of my corp job) and you'd be amazed (or maybe not) at how bad many people are at it who are actually tasked to design these forms.

Re: The New Listing Tool - some reasons it's slower

hello, I can't switch to the old version from the new listing. It is no longer active. And when I do sell similar in the new version, when I want to change something, the page refreshes itself after a few seconds and everything returns to its original state. I can't make any edits. For example, I change the title of the ad and at that moment the page refreshes itself and becomes old. For example, I am uploading a product photo, a few seconds after uploading, the page refreshes itself and returns to its original state. That's why I can't post an ad. How comfortable everything was in the old version, I'm about to go crazy

Re: The New Listing Tool - some reasons it's slower

The new listing tool is missing a cancel button.  To cancel a listing in progress, I have to use the back arrow.  Then I have to go to drafts and delete the now "cancelled" listing.

When editing a listing to make revisions, there is only a Done button.  There is no longer a revise another listing button.  To revise another listing now requires an extra click to view active listings.

Re: The New Listing Tool - some reasons it's slower

By far , this is the worse listing page / tool ever designed by ebay.  Hopefully someone notices this and makes a change.  Whoever designed this must be fired. Whoever approved this must be fired too.

I used to relist 20 items at a time and I wanted them to start 1 minute apart.  All I had to do was writing starting time and then click 1 minute apart.

Now Ebay expects me to manually go into each one and type (example)  the date, the time 8.oo pm  ,   enter and the then the next one date, time 8.01pm .etc. etc.

Ridiculous.  Bring back the previous listing page.
