Last thing I need is an ad to spark my buying. Over rated. And we sellers pay for those ads. No thanks. Let me know when you can prove that any of those ads actually translate to sales for you. How many people out there actually have not heard of eBay. When I do searches on the internet, items from eBay always pop up.

But if "we sellers pay for those ads" anyway, it would be nice to see some...

There is a radio spot for eBay that I heard about a week ago. It was not advertising the collector/used goods side of eBay, it was very much about new item market.

We are not paying for them if there isn't any.....kind of circle logic there. Again, do you really think your sales are being driven by ads? Ok, so let's say some number of buyers see an ad and say "Geez I never heard of eBay, let's spend some money there". How many of those people will actually trickle down to buy from you? I'll stick with people who are actually looking for my items and know how to find them.

ebay has stated there will be no video or TV ads this Season. They are doing more targeted marketing.

No @dirk12955 I have not seen any eBay ads, commercials nor heard any on the radio ...

@my-cottage-books-and-antiques hmmm, "targeted marketing" ... I wonder that that means ...

I assume that means "social media" where all the cool kids hang out, which means I guess I'll never see an Ebay ad again as long as I and/or Ebay lives.

Social Media is included, so are Pop-up stores, and radio ads, and press releases, and stuff like that. The one thing they have said they aren't doing is video/TV. But I suspect if sales aren't coming in at the numbers they'd like to see, they could change their mind about no video/TV....they've done that before....

It's just a little late for eBay to change their mind about video or TV ads.
Those things take more than a month to happen.

Heard an ad on XM radio. Advertising NEW electronics, gaming systems, handbags and shoes. No mention of hard to find vintage or collectibles. They are trying to be like the RIVER.
I see ads on Facebook but its mainly for selling-wait for it........
NEW electronics, gaming systems, handbags and shoes.

I agree, it's a little late, and I doubt they'd actually run TV ads at this point. But producing short videos for use on Social Media, etc? I wouldn't say that's impossible, they'd just be working with a compressed timeframe. I doubt it will happen, because they are probably seeing---overall---decent revenue.

(hmmm, "targeted marketing" ... I wonder that that means ...)
It means that for the holidays they are using the Marketing Budget
to give some eBay employees gift certificates to (Target) for their
Christmas Bonus.
The money they save by doing so will be used for extra bonuses for
Upper Management.
