Finished revising ALL my listings 2 days ago as 98% had been moved into wrong categories and needed new Item Specifics. Decided to do a test to see if my 2020 Lenox Porcelain Ornaments showed. Have 4 of these listings.
All Category Search: Christmas Ornament
Item Specifics Checked (in left margin): *Note these are the same specifics I have in these 4 listings.
~ Material: Porcelain
~ Occasion: Christmas
~ Brand: Lenox
~ Year: 2020
~ Theme: *All mine have Christmas/Winter as the Theme & this was not even offered as an option.
~ Features: Selected ALL that are on my listings.
~ Condition: New
Got 109 Results & 3 of my ornaments showed, but NOT Mickey Mouse. Why, I wondered, so began analyzing. Decided to sort by "Character" but NO Mickey Mouse option was even available...Why? I have that as a specific in that listing.
Then I looked at my title for this which is basically the same as the others. Here's the title of one that did show:
NIB Lenox/Disney Ornament 2020 WINNIE POOH CHRISTMAS CHEER Porcelain 24k *2 LOTS
Here's the Mickey ornament that didn't show:
NIB Lenox/Disney Ornament 2020 MICKEY MOUSE LET IT SNOW Porcelain 24k 3 LOTS
I discovered that of the 3 that showed in the results, ALL had the word Christmas in them. So the original search was Christmas Ornament. ANYthing with the word "Ornament" should have shown. Lenox was checked as the Brand, so certainly ALL of those should have shown.
NEXT, I revised Mickey title to include the word Christmas and bingo, it was finally included in the search results.
*** BOTTOM LINE: The New Item Specifics in the left Search margin were basically meaningless as the results were based on the wording of the Title! WTH eBay?
Why have us spend many, many hours revising these specifics if they're useless? And as I've mentioned in my other post, why the hell roll out all the many changes during our most profitable time of year? Why not July, the slowest month? Buyers are now having issues finding their target items and are moving over to other sites. My sales in 7 days are zero (1st time in 8 years) and my sis, who sells daily, has sold 1. Historically, we've had LOTS of sales this time of year! The Holiday Season is looking very dismal as the Joy has been replaced by sheer frustration and anger. Heads should roll because of this debacle...

So glad you posted as I and others have shared the same things about the Seasonal category - nothing is selling and nothing matches up in search.
You are correct about Title Real Estate - never been more important - even then, no guarantees!!

The other issue is that not all sellers fill them correctly or the same way, so you might miss on some items if searching by item specifics.

And eBay expects potential buyers to find things? Wow! Good luck on that one.

SEARCH should be EASY for Buyers, not more complicated and time consuming! The MANY categories that eBay deleted made it easier for Buyers to find things or to simply Browse by categories to see what might strike their fancy. They won't be browsing anymore since the results are now too freaking mind boggling and time consuming to scroll through. Item specifics won't help with these types of buyers as they'll have to know exactly what they're looking for and even then, good luck finding it! Bye Bye Browsers, Bye Bye Browser Sales!

Understand, that since the new IS are "required" until 2/2021, the search options may not be updated until then.......

@dhbookds"Understand, that since the new IS are (aren't is what you meant) "required" until 2/2021, the search options may not be updated until then.......
True that the new IS not required till Feb, but Search Options have already been updated/changed on the many different Test searches I've done so far.
Further, my above mentioned Mickey Mouse Ornament didn't show in the "Christmas Ornament" Search results due to what was in TITLE, not Item Specifics. IS were of No Help even though all the new relevant boxes were checked. Only when I changed Title and added the word Christmas, did Mickey show in results.
So the Title yielded the relevant results, NOT the NEW IS.
