Stronger Browser Security Standards (HTTPS)

Starting today, you will see changes on eBay item description pages that contain non-compliant HTTP content. Google Chrome has pushed their browser update which includes stronger security standards. As a result, eBay will be adding a "see full item description" button to all listings that contain non-compliant HTTP content.

This new experience will look very similar to the way mobile buyers already see listing descriptions today. It also ensures that we comply with the Google mandate and prevents your buyers from seeing a “Not Secure” warning when they’re shopping on eBay

Please review our landing page for more information and tools to help you identify any of your listings that may contain non-compliant HTTP content.

EDIT 11/8/17 @ 12:23 PT

We are aware of an issue where the eBay HTTPS identification tool is showing listings that were revised to be HTTPS compliant after 10/31 as non-compliant. We are actively working on this issue and plan to have a quick fix for any new or revised listings. Any existing listings that have been updated to be HTTPS compliant but are still showing as non-compliant in the tool will continue to show as non-compliant until the listing is either revised or renewed. If you do not revise or relist, the issue will automatically correct after 30 days.

Please note that if your listings are compliant, they will show normally to buyers and have the “secure” message in the URL. You can confirm this experience by looking at the live listing. This issue is confined to our tool that identifies non-compliant listings, which is currently failing to update to show listings as compliant after you have updated your http content to be compliant.

We apologize for this issue and will update you here as soon as the issue is resolved.

NOTE TO EBAY:.... when are you going to make the " stores.ebay.com " a SECURED SITE...???
=================================================================
eBay has NOT made their " stores.ebay.com " secure... so even if you went and changed all your listings to "secured" listings (https) eBay's Store website is still NOT SECURE... this is a problem as a warning sign will pop up advising sellers that it is risky to be on your webpage as it is NOT SECURE...

If they don't FIX THIS we can expect a DECLINE in our sales after October 1st especially if customers use the Chrome Browser to view your listings. On Chrome there will be a large "WARNING" SIGN in red... the "Not Secure" message may deter buyers from purchasing.

**PLEASE POST OR CONTACT EBAY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM... THIS HOLIDAY SEASON SHOPPING WILL BE UPON US. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED NOW....

You know, ebay, I can take my buying and selling business to a number of other sites that don't feel they must be compelled to bend to Google's rules. I have never felt the least bit unsafe browsing within ebay because the likelihood of any malicious code being picked up is negligible.  And I doubt sellers (let's call them posters) have the computer knowledge to write complex scripts and embed them just to add another bot to some random evil botnet. Heck, most posters can't even spell the words ‘sale’ or ‘item’ correctly ("sell," "saller," iten") it goes on and on.  No, it is insane to have to click "twice" to read a posting. I operate at a desktop station like a normal person, (not like a rude smartphone-obsessed jerk trying to browse ebay going 50 down the highway weaving like a drunken moron) and it insults my intelligence to have to do someone else's work, ie site security.  It was a few years ago ebay tried this hair brain scheme of forcing us revenue-generating buyers to have to go through these arbitrary hoops attempting to read listings and have to click again to see read descriptions, and it failed miserably -- with buyers forcefully denouncing everywhere this tyranical indignity -- and it was changed back.  Now you want to sneak it in again, ostensibly as a change Google forces, but no, it is really ebay being too lazy to construct a parallel site to accommodate the smartphone (stupidphone) obsessed ignoramuses (causing casualties on the roadways staring at phone **bleep** instead of driving). Why do you have to cater to these timewasters???   If we have to, a revolt will rise up again over this insult too our intelligence and forcing our behavior: having to bend to other's will.  People that are revenue-generators like me that are fed up can take our business to Audiogon, discogs, USAM, Reverb, and dare I say, even the big "A." where we are treated like normal, appreciated customers.  What will ebay say then when all the buyers leave??: "At least we bent over and let Google stick it to us like the quivering, compliant, obedient slaves to Google we must be. Too bad our stock is trading down to twenty cents."

Ahhh... we all love rules, don't we now. So I went through the hassle of updating all my listings MANUALLY.   Oh yeah.  Have added https in all possible places and made sure to add target="_blank" at the end of each link. Tested and passed with flying colors.

It's not that complicated, just takes time. But then again, what doesn't.

Everything is always okay in the end,
if it's not, then it's not the end.

I have 0 non-compliant code in my listings. None. It is text from notepad with one word group that is underlined from your editor. And my listings have the see description button.

You have got to be kidding with this stuff. If sales weren't bad enough, this will kill them completely.

Could you take a look at this listing?

I ran a sandbox scan on this listing and found no issues. Are there other triggers I am missing?  The seller says the listing is one-click-away, while I see it inline as expected. I'm using Firefox, not Chrome, but it's my understanding that all browsers would see the same view.  Was there a startup glitch?

I updated our listings just before Oct 1st, 300 listings all good, I have since added listings so my question is, do I need to do the same http update to every listing I create now?

That listing looks good.

Has more info then I like in my listings but it has more then just plain text.

How are they doing it?

Is it a 3rd party app or can I get this done with my eBay store?

I'm seeing a ton of description pages with

"Your connection is not secure

The owner of vi.vipr.ebaydesc.com has configured their website improperly. To protect your information from being stolen, Firefox has not connected to this website."

even though they host from properly configured HTTPS websites. Some of them are your official partners.

Used to never have a problem hosting a picture from a different domain with HTTPS as long as that domain has its own SSL cert. Now it's saying I have to have an Akamai cert, which is silly.

My techno son just informed me that I could get a SSL  for low cost or free from cloudflare to solve my eBay problem. . .

If you're having the same problem I am (SEE FULL ITEM DESCRIPTION) you might consider looking into it. . .

Well just because you suggest it does not make it a good suggestion.  MANY people use google chrome as thier prefered browser, myself included.  Why would you want to loose thousands of potential buyers?

People for years have been complaining of google no longer showing Ebay items - which is a falacy - now they do something so we're in compliance and our items can continue being seen and they still have a problem with it. There are some people you can just never please but unfortunately - those who don't know better fall for all the tin foil theories and complaining.

I'm seeing the See Item Description button on some of my completed listings that I did check with the i-way tool when they were live and they all passed. So I just checked one of the completed ones again with the i-way tool and it still checks out OK but it has the See Item Description button. Are you putting this button on all the closed listings or was there something in those listings that i-way is not catching?

Turns out my listings did have HTML. I wasn't aware remnents of ebay apps that have been unsubscribed stayed in the auction HTML. They do and have to be removed manually.  In my particular case it was the language translator.

What I did was copy my description to Notepad. Completely blew away the HTML. Then pasted the text back to the description.  Did some minor editing. All auctions clean now.

The requirement to REMOVE any link that does not reference eBay is really a dumb position.

I will have to remove links to installation instructions and technical documents that help the buyer and drive sales. So I guess eBay is looking to harm sellers who actually provide buyers with helpful information and reward the sellers who have nothing in their descriptions except a duplicate of the title.
