I saw for sale yesterday at a thrift shop an empty pickle jar (complete with lid, and label still attached) for $1.
Seemed a little pricey. 😂
A sign of the times, perhaps?

Among the many items which I could not forebear picking up at garage sales, flea markets, thrift shops, etc, were the following:
A 3 foot, blow-up Richard Nixon children's toy punching bag (very top heavy, due to the huge plastic nose).
A ping-pong paddle depicting a caricature of Richard Nixon on one side, and Mao-Tse Tung on the flip side.
The 1978 12", 45 RPM numbered, colored vinyl record album of the Temple City Kazoo Orchestra, performing the Led Zeppelin song "Whole Lotta Love," as well as "Also Sprach Zarathustra," "Stayin' Alive," and "Miss You" -- all songs performed entirely on kazoo. This was the first release from Rhino Records.
An automobile window suction-cup doll of President George H. W. Bush, as the Frankenstein monster.
A two-sided jigsaw puzzle (in box), featuring a caricature of President Richard Nixon on one side, with a caricature of Vice-President Spiro Agnew on the flip-side.
A yellow molded clay "piggy" bank, in the form of a Giant Anteater.
My son and I have a fixation on uncovering strange and weird items, ever since I gifted him about 40 years ago, with a set of plastic, Japanese wind-up sushi toys which I had chanced upon at a gift shop.
It has since become a rivalry between both of us.

Did the jar label have a barcode on it? It may have been an older jar which, like advertising tins, some people collect. Or it may have been from a particular packer in a particular town that people look for. Or it may have just been a pickle jar that someone hoped someone else would pay $1.00 for. (I've seen similar things at GW and thought why would they even bother to put that on the shelf?)

As to the strangest thing I have ever found while sourcing: probably a set of dentures at a garage sale. The owner actually said the dentures belonged to a relative who hoped that someone would buy them that could use them. What do you want to bet they didn't sell?

Yes... there was a barcode. I know what sort of jars you are referring to and this was not one of them.
It was a jar that you could find at any grocery store.
I did see on FBM the other day a jar of peanut butter for sale. The seller said that she had opened it and tried it but didn't like it.
A bargain at only $2.00!

There's a Catholic thrift store near me and sitting in the glass case next to the cash register was a big box of condoms the sign said only 2 missing. $1.00

And you didn't grab that bargain? 🤣
It always amazes me to go to estate sales that has opened boxes or used containers of food for sale, also used cosmetics like eye shadow, lipstick, etc. That is just gross. About a month ago, we went to an estate sale that had a lot of "opened food" for sale. There was also about 10 cans of canned chili on the counter; the cans were all badly rusted but were priced at $1.00 each. I picked one up and the expiry date was 10 years ago. I don't know why someone would even put something like that out for sale.

I would actually bet that they did sell, We live in a strange world!

Maybe a Priest with unethical urges.

I certainly hope not. They weren't a collectible. As badly as those cans were rusted, they would probably explode if someone tried to open them. I'm not afraid to eat some expired food but after 10 years, I'm sure the chili would not have been safe to eat, especially with the rust on the cans.

I found a glittery evening bag with a baggie of 'handmade cigarettes' inside.

A while ago i found some illicit drugs stuffed under the pickguard of a vintage Fender Stratocaster. Discovered it while appraising/pulling apart the guitar for possible purchase. Of course, the original owner had "no clue" how they got there. 😂

Nothing comes to mind while out sourcing but when I was running my friends antique store a strange lady came in.
She had 4 old dolls in her arms, two were small porcelain jointed baby dolls and the other were larger. She told me to get rid of them as she hates her mother and hope she dies soon.
I sat there in disbelief and ask why do you hate your mother so much? She replied I've always hated her ever since I was young and these are her dolls. I reached in my pocket and gave her $10 for all of them and asked her to leave.
I sold the 2 larger ones and I did keep the small ones and still have them in a cabinet. I felt sorry for those dolls lol. How in the world could someone be that cruel to hate their mother like that?

I hate to disagree but there are people who collect dentures/reuse dentures. Before eBay cracked down, some used dentures sold in the hundreds of dollars. Gross and impractical yes. But there's a demand. So sellers fill that demand.

I used to have a small shop in a small town and across the street was a huge antique store. About 25% good antiques and the rest was repro items, ordinary items and a huge amount of filler items that made it hard to even see the good quality antiques. I notices in a display case a empty tin of Altoid mints priced at $1. At the time I could go to any gas station and get a full tin of Altoids for under $2, enjoyed the mints and gotten my Altoid tin for free. I regret not asking but maybe she would have taken $.50 for it.
