Strange new Buyer's Notes

Within the past month, I've been getting a lot of buyer's notes. The strange thing is they've all been from new accounts who have bought multiple things that day and all of the notes read something along the lines of:

This is my present to a member of my family; I don't need any store links, price information, or thank-you notes. Kindly get rid of them. greatly appreciate your understanding.

If it's not too much trouble, please send this item as a gift without sending any checks or requests to eBay.Thank you very much!

Hello, how are you doing? I'm buying this as a gift for a friend;Could you please ship it without eBay in the form of checks or invoices in the package?

I can tell they've bought multiple things that day because they'll only have a few reviews, and they're all seller feedback on that very day. Does anyone have any idea what this is? I've encountered people actually buying gifts, but this seems very suspicious. I've never had so many happen all of a sudden.

Re: Strange new Buyer's Notes

Seems to me they want it sent in a plain package with no documentation inside. This could be acceptable as a gift, however if this is an international sale they may be trying to skirt custom fees.

As long as they are not asking you to ship to different address then what is shown on eBay ship to and are paying, leave out the requested information and ship.

It may be a gift and they just don't want to recipient to see what they've spent on the item.  It's sort of customary this time of year.  I also will get those little notes as well from time to time.  Nothing to worry about.  Just don't add any receipts as requested.

Happy Holidays!

Re: Strange new Buyer's Notes

Sometimes buyers don't want the person that gets the gift to learn it was from Ebay.   Just mail the item w/o a packing slip or thank you note.  Make sure that you only ship to the address provided in the payment. If it's an international sale and you need to add insurance on it , you can NOT lie about the value.   The sale price and the insurance amount MUST match.   You can always check gift on the customs form too.

Strange- pre-owned clothes for a gift??

or a drop shipper dropping pre-owned clothes??

Either way, I guess I wouldn't worry about a $10 sale. If they paid, ship to the address shown (only) and move on.

Re: Strange new Buyer's Notes

I strongly suspect this has NOTHING to do with "gifts". They are forwarders trying to avoid import duties at the other end. I have packing slips I enclose with every shipment. I use EBAY tape and eBay labels. I often use eBay mailers. I am not changing any of that for buyers in China using freight forwarders in Portland. And if it is  "GIFT", why is it going to their eBay address? NEVER change the address for delivery to someone else as a "gift". That is a scam. They can claim non delivery and if you mailed it to anything other than their eBay address you will be forced to refund. And who wants a "gift" to arrive in a box with no nice note fom the gifter or wrapping paper etc. Looks cheap.

Re: Strange new Buyer's Notes

The seller only sees the ship to address, we cannot see if that is their home address or one that was added as a ship to address. Even if you can, what would it matter as long as you ship to the address eBay tells you to. You can add addresses, some like me, have more than one and if I don't currently have one on my list for the receiver, I can add before paying. Just because it isn't wrapped in gift paper doesn't mean it is not a gift.

HI!

They are sending gifts. Why do you think that is so strange? Do you not give gifts around the Holidays?

20,000 orders last two years. I have gotten this message exactly once. Drop shipper. A bunch of them is definitely odd.

Just for yucks, pick one or two of your sold listings for which you received one of these notes, and do a Google Image Search to see if another seller (either on eBay or another site, doesn't matter) is using your image(s) to sell. Once they get a sale, they scramble to buy yours (at a lesser price) and disguise what they're doing by asking you to leave out any identifiable paperwork. (I don't know how they explain the fact that it's your name and return address on the outside of the package.)

This is not drop-shipping, because you have no previously-existing arrangement with them to fulfill their order from their buyers. It's retail arbitrage, which eBay prohibits, although to be clear, your buyer is the suspect here, not you. What they don't allow is a seller to be using others' listings and then buying their stuff later when a sale occurs. You're not doing any of that yourself; you're just fulfilling an order from a buyer.

I would complete the sale as you're expected to do, but if this happens a lot (and especially if you do find others copying your photos and listings), you might want to consider raising your prices to whatever these other guys are managing to get for your products.

Re: Strange new Buyer's Notes

please do not check gift on the customs form -- that designation is only if YOU are sending a gift personally ....  not as a seller ...
