Store Traffic Issues

My store traffic was down over 50% last month and another 14% this month. This seems to be a recent thing happening in the last few months. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know what the cause is? Is there a setting I need to change in my store or is it because I have a custom design? I know summer sales are slower and am aware of search issues, I am specifically looking to why this very recent thing is happening. Could it be related to the active content change?

Re: Store Traffic Issues

Many collectibles and antiques have fallen to the minimalist trend. Now there is a glut . Supply and demand is what drives the market. Doesn't matter how rare or plentiful. Question is does anyone want it in their world. Sad so much history falls by the wayside of some of it.

You have not given us much to go on.  You say your traffic is down ... how are your sales

Traffic and sales can be affected by a many  things - price, demand, supply, competition, fashion, best match placement, buyer perception of the seller,  stale inventory, listing volume, etc.

When I look at seller listings in repsonse to posts like there, it usually comes down to demand or competition.

Examples:

Your original UK pressing Adverts LP is VG+ and $120 ... but there are 8 on offer right now, and the other 7 are dramatically less than yours. 6 of them are less than 50% of your price, and the one that is 75% of your price is listed as MINT. And a quick search of completed shows that no one has paid more than $60 in the last three months.

Your original T Texas Tyler is VG and $150, which could be a good price (there are sealed reissues for $10, sealed originals for $250)  but the point may be moot because no copies have sold here - reissue or otherwise - for three months at least.

Your Bettye Swann is $99. In the last three months, the only two copies that have sold went for $30 or less.

Your Siouxsie & Banshees Once Upon a Time is $90. I see that 25 have sold in the last three months, but all 25 sold for less than $30.

Is it possible that your competitively-price merchandise is pretty much sold out, and you are now left with the stuff that is not really competitive?

Re: Store Traffic Issues

Been selling on ebay for 12 years.
Traffic down, Sales down ... Reasons:
1. Amazon is killing ebay (and all other retailers) and ebay does not want to admit it!
2. The item on ebay do not show on google shopping anymore (or as much).
3. Like if Ali Express was not enough, now ebay is allowing all these Chinese seller dump their junk on ebay for pennies !

Then again... like ebay cares about sellers ...

I don't happen to believe that ebay's IT guys or gals are smart enough to manipulate the site as conspiracy theorists have been posting for years.

When it is reinforces a particular argument, posters on this board will generally ridicule eBay's employees as being absolutely incompetent and incapable of even the most basic programming tasks.

But when it reinforces a completely different argument, posters on this board will generally credit eBay's employees with accomplishing some of the most complex and sophisticated programming tasks imaginable.

It is almost impossible for us to tell you the exact reason, but recent changes that coincide with your reduced traffic would indicate you might have

  1. active content even though you are say you do not.  I would try to use one of the checker to double check.
  2. There is also a new security issue (HTTPS) that needs some attention as well.
  3. You also are using the old store format which is not very search engine friendly, and one of the reason they made changes to that area.
  4. I also noticed you are not using the keywords Record Album, or any other keywords like this is many of your listings.  Is there a reason you are not using a direct keyword that describes your product perfectly?
  5. Have you considered trying the promoted listings tool or the promotion manager?
  6. Since many of your items are basically the same shape and weight. I would raise my shipping rate by 1.00 lower my item by 1.00 and then change the additional item cost to be free. and also use the promotion manager to advertise this flat rate shipping model for your records.  When I did this for a category of items that are all similar like your records are, I made huge jumps in sales for those items.
  7. From the seller hub go to manage my store then click on search engine keywords (left side bar) and fill out this area as well as you can.  Try not to use artist and album titles because when they sell and you no longer have them available these keywords that do not lead to a product will start to hurt you in search.
  8. Lastly when things start to go south it is almost always (almost 100%) due to increased competition that is doing a better job with buyers engaging in their listing versus yours.  You will need to identify who is doing what and see if you can find some changes to mirror the things they are doing well.  You can probably find some of this info in the cold and completed listings tabs.

Good Luck Selling!
