Stealing Listings

There was a topic while ago about sellers stealing other seller's listings, lock, stock and barrel.  Seems to be a lot of that going on, eBay letting sellers steal the work and value of another. We have a listing which has been stolen by 3 different sellers and all of them are current listings on the site. . Anybody have more than that ?   Fun for a slow Sat. afternoon , lol

Re: Stealing Listings

You might want to fix the shipping on this one.

Re: Stealing Listings

I don't know a doggone thing about trading cards, but isn't that number that's a part of the authentication / grading unique?   Won't buyers of the copied listings be in for a surprise, and the sellers in for some nifty INADs, if that's the case?

Re: Stealing Listings

@amricons  Back in the olden days people would steal images from other listings, but hot-link them (before all the easy drag and drop).  The image owners had a lot of fun getting their own back by changing the image at their hosting level and it would pop up in the thief's listing.  There were some pretty good ones - Walmart Leotard guy,  the Pile of Rubbish, etc.

Re: Stealing Listings

Not something I really look for. But I did notice someone took at least one of my photos for their listing when I was checking to see where mine came up when searching for it. Confused me at first because I thought it was mine, but the price was wrong.

Realized what was up shortly after.

Re: Stealing Listings

the "have one similar to sell" function in eBay will create a carbon copy of the listing you are looking at.....That may be the root cause of the problem.

Re: Stealing Listings

It's a weird sensation - I once had someone steal a photo of mine from when I sold an old Harman-Kardon receiver.  I came across it looking at some other audio equipment and thought "Huh...how weird, somebody else has that same junky coffee table with all the record albums under it...until I realised it was MY junky coffee table with all the record albums under it.  All I could think of was that the guy must have been really desperate to steal my bad photo.

Re: Stealing Listings

I have several, they're even on Amazon and Walmart (and Walmart now has the same problem with multiple listings from the same seller).

@north40sales   I've used the 'have one similar to sell' but have never had the photos or text show up - just title and IS's.

Re: Stealing Listings

Yeah, I think the photos are only carried through when it is your own listing.

Re: Stealing Listings

I found some of my pictures and text on a fake website.  They were selling my items for a quarter of the price.  I knew it just wasn't possible and  confirmed it was a fake website after googling the site information.
