So I just sold a high dollar item and immediately after winning, the buyer asks to ship to a different address. I told him I can't do that and that I can only ship to the original address that he used to checkout. I cancel the purchase, and shortly after, the buyer tells me that it was just a request, and that I can ship to the original address. However, now when I go to the item page, it says cancellation pending and there's no option for me to cancel the cancellation. What do I do from here? The last thing I want to do is ship the item, and the cancellation goes through and now I'm out $900.

Do not ship it and just wait till eBay does it's thing. Too many scams with changing addresses.

The cancellation pends as money shuffles around, it's nothing sinister.

I get butterflies in my stomach over address issues of any kind, especially a buyer asking to mail to something other than the address of record because that reeks of an INR scam to me... Sorry to be direct, but I cancel those purchases instantly for "problem with buyer's address."

Buyers can change the address themselves (that's one of the great things about ebay that other sites don't usually allow). If they do, I don't think sellers are even aware of it. So you could have suggested they change it on their own. Then throw some insurance on it and you're as protected as much as with any other sale.
I think.

That would have to have been done at "checkout" when paying, not after the fact.

I think on a $900 item you need to send signature required.

First, make sure the message came from the actual buyer and not a phantom 'watcher' who sent a message 'posing' as the buyer. Compare actual accounts(feedback# for instance). Often fake buyers will mimic user ids of real buyers. For whatever reason, eBay is years behind fixing this scam. They have their top people on it though, any year now...
Regardless, don't ship it.
If it is the buyer who requested the address change, be polite, but report and block the buyer. You may get a neg for cancelling so quickly, as real buyers do want to change their address every so often but it's better to report the activity in case they are scamming.

It's cancelled. You can suggest that if they want to they can repurchase providing the desired "ship to" address at checkout.

So an update, I called Ebay and the CSR told me that if I upload a tracking number, the cancellation request would end, and I would be covered. I was going to just refund the buyer, and relist, but I realized that I would lose a bunch of money in fees (I wasn't aware ebay changed this last year).

if you select the reason to cancel "issue with buyers address", I don't believe you lose your fees charged. You should be able to relist for free.
signature is best as stated from other post.
