Hi
I am selling a lot of stuff accumulated through the years, I am not a business. I was happy to just get things out of my house, I really have too many things.
A while ago I inquired how to stay with paypal because I did not want to give my SS# to ebay. Here is what I was told: Thank you so much for your patience. What I will do here then is to send your account information to so that you will not be transitioned for the managed payments to keep using PayPal.
Then I received an new ebay mail telling me if I do not register I will not be able to make new sell. I contacted ebay through chatand this is what I was told:
Unfortunately this will be the new process for selling items on eBay. We will now permanently cut ties with PayPal. Your listing abilities will be restricted if you will not be opted in to Manage Payments.
Im sorry but that is correct , you can only continue using Paypal if you are listing items under categories such as Coins & paper money, gift cards & coupons, ebay motors other than that there is no option to opt out.
So can any one tell why those people do not have to expose their SS#.
Thank you
does any one knows why some sells can still happen with paypal

Customers can still use PayPal and other credit cards to purchase. PayPal no longer handles EBAY payment management for Sellers.
If you want to continue to sell on EBAY you must switch over to MANAGED PAYMENTS (money deposited directly into your bank account).

It is difficult for those who really are only selling a few personal items to get back the money they spent in buying those items in the first place, and who are clearly NOT retailers and do not have any business.
If you do do want to sell on eBay to make money as a business, it is my opinion that you incorporate and get a business tax ID. No one should require you to give them your SSN unless you are being hired at a job.
I'm unsure of why some posters say Ebay has withheld certain information when what has actually happened is that the poster wasn't aware of it, NOT that Ebay hasn't shared the information.
Ebay has said many times that they have to verify our identities as required by federal law. They say it in the TOS for MP as well as on this thread.
And there are other policies regarding MP where this is mentioned as well. I'm sorry you missed that information, but Ebay wasn't intentionally keeping it from you.
I completely agree with you. The changeover to MP is especially hard for Casual Sellers. And it is those sellers that are represented the most on the threads with complaints on the subject.
There is absolutely NO NEED to incorporate to function as a business on Ebay or any other similar venue. I've been an online seller for many years on a few sites and I am a Sole Proprietorship. It works just fine. There is no need to go through the expense of incorporating and having the ongoing maintenance of a corporation to stay in good standing with your state and IRS. It simply isn't necessary at all.

It is not that expensive to incorporate. But your way may be better. But again this does not apply to me because I have sold literally 2 items in 6 months and did not get paid for one of them. So gives you an idea of my selling activity.. on the other hand I must have purchased about 25 items, so am not comfortable giving eBay or anyone my SSN....there is no need for it.
It sounds like you are a professional seller. Wow! Good for you! Good luck with your businesses!

It simply isn't necessary. You are welcome to do what you feel suits you, but forming a corporation simply isn't necessary.
AGain, MP only requires the last four digits of your SSN.
