Will all the looters and thieves across the nation now be listing their stolen items on ebay?    Will ebay start policing the number of new accounts opened; specifically,  in those cities where the most damage has been occurring due to non-peaceful protests?   Will they see a pattern of like items being listed by any one seller who just registered from any of the cities across the nation which have been terrorized lately?

Someone else asked this same question on another Board, maybe the M2M, if you want to go there and read the many replies.

It's a mystery to me how anyone believes eBay would be able to regulate this.  So eBay would ban new accounts originating in those cities where looting has occurred? Punish the mostly-honest new eBay sellers?

How would that work, exactly, except to alienate new sellers?

If I, for instance, were to suddenly decide  to list the two designer bags I own, would I be refused the opportunity?

If you have a suggestion for eBay on policing this, I am sure they would be glad to hear it.

NO. Ebay cannot possibly identify stolen merchandise. They are definitely not going to stop people from selling.

Speaking strictly for myself, of all the things I have to think about these days, like a worldwide pandemic, systemic racism, rampant unemployment, a failing economy, a cavernous void in leadership, the erosion of the middle class, et al, people selling stolen goods on eBay is way down on the list.

IMO, your post is a dog whistle that serves as a rallying call to all like-minded individuals to move to the next step on the path to making veiled generalizations and demonizing a group of people with whom you do not agree. It only serves to deepen the chasm that has already split this country. Your implication that not only are protesters looting but are also going to sell stolen goods on eBay is inflammatory and has no basis in reality. It's the kind of unfounded speculation that is used to  dehumanize a group of people who are perceived as "them," who are against "us."

Be better. Be part of the solution, not part of the problem. Something to think about.

I think the looters will liquidate the items long before they consider selling them on eBay. In my opinion, it's a non-issue.

These are the same professional shoplifters who steal in stores everyday. I am sure they already have eBay accounts and places to sell their stolen goods. Those whose items were stolen can expose them by filing claims with eBay. Some of these are unique items where I am sure there will be proof they were stolen so expect these criminals to sell them off eBay.

Well they stopped ME from selling! I followed all their tobacco policies regarding vintage cigarette packs. Opened every single one and dumped the cigarettes out, showed a photo of the empty pack and stated in my title that they were EMPTY. That is THEIR policy which I followed to the letter and I have now been suspended from selling for 3 days. Why punish HONEST sellers AND buyers who’ve studied and know their policies better than they do? Why enforce SOME Policies, police SOME issues and completely ignore REAL crimes that are undoubtedly being committed. eBay is spending too much time punishing the innocent, HONEST sellers and buyers, and not enough time worrying about REAL crime and how to prevent it. Get your policies AND your priorities straight eBay!!!!

These are not "non-peaceful protests", they are not protests at all, they are violent  thieves that have nothing to do with protesting anything, just as the peaceful demonstrators have nothing to do with thieves and looting.

No, ebay couldn't possibly know if something being listed was stolen.

Why look for non-existent problems that you obviously can't solve.

ebay only writes policy.  Policing is left, mainly, to the buyers and sellers to report problems with listings/items. Then ebay will take a look and, perhaps, do something, if there are enough complaints.

At least, that is the impression many have gotten from ebay's replies to similar questions and from various actions taken - or not taken - over time.

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.

The foolishness of one's actions or words is determined by the number of witnesses.

Perhaps if Brains were described as an APP, many people would use them more often.

Respect, like money, is only of 'worth' when it is earned - with all due respect, it can not be ordained, legislated or coerced. Anonymous

Thank you for your message. I’m just frustrated. Although those are exactly my feelings, there is too much negativity everywhere right now without me adding to it. I should have taken a deep breath and been a little less harsh, or kept my feelings to myself. I apologize😞
