Hello Everyone!
Beware, as eBay platform has a major vulnerability that hackers exploit. I recently got a message from eBay stating that two of my crypto miners sold for almost 10,000 US dollars. The app main screen read "Paid Ship Now" so I shipped the items. There was also a "Note to Self" note by the hacker "funds on hold until 7/27" for a purchase on 7/3!!!! Sure enough the funds never were deposited by eBay and 7/27/22 I called and it turns out "there was never a payment for this item" and "you made a keystroke marking the item paid" one minute after it was purchased. Are you freaking kidding me? Following are facts:
1) Someone logged into my account from Texas July 3. I live in San Diego and was visiting family in Arkansas.
2) They marked the item as paid
3) Their account sometime between July 3 and July 27 was suspended for abuse of the eBay system
4) They had an international forwarding address in Miami, so by the time I caught up with the fraud the miners were well out of the country.
So far, eBay has simply said they escalated the case for higher review. I swear if they don't apply the seller guarantee here, I will call them everyday and tweet them twice a day until they take some responsibility and file a law suit if need be. This has happened before, per a google search and searching these message boards!

Only trust your items showing up in your My Ebay > Orders > Awaiting Shipment AND the payment is in your Payments tab showing under Processing or Available. That is the ONLY time you should ever ship your items, no matter what your messages say, because of scammers and hackers.
I'm also a little confused about what you mean by "funds on hold until 7/27". Again, If the payment was legitimate, it would have been showing in your payments tab. Always confirm payments are in your payments tab and at least "processing" before you ship.
Finally, NEVER, EVER list, and especially ship, any higher-value item that you and your business model are not prepared to lose, along with your payment for it. Expensive items are best reserved for cash thru Craigslist, a reputable auction house, or other trustworthy private venue.
Cheers, Duffy

I bet the culprit is the guy with the unpaid item.
He figured a way to hack in to your account and marked his own item as "paid".
What is the world coming to?

That sure sounds like you fell for a phishing scam.

I didn’t fall for anything I was no where near my phone when this happened and there was no login notification about a new location. That always happens…so this was a more sophisticated hacker.

You don't fall for anything ... but (a) you saw a "note to self" that you did not leave and that did not raise alarm bells, and (b) you shipped a $10K item without verifying that a payment was made.

When the eBay app which takes information that emanates from PayPal (usually) says “paid ship now” in almost 20 years I’ve never had an issue and sell knowing the seller guarantee is protection against fraud. I only use the eBay app and don’t sign in on laptops. There was no phishing, it was more complex attack. My brother works in IT and these days they can use a number of different methods

You shipped almost $10,000 worth of items and didn't check to see if you were paid first?

No! The app clearly said “Paid Ship Now”…which part of that do you not understand?

That's one reason I don't use the app, to many problems.
I always go to the site to check to make sure payments were made before shipping.

It is highly unlikely that you were hacked.
1. This I can't explain and it is a good idea to change your password immediately and notify Ebay Security.
https://www.ebay.com/help/account/protecting-account/get-help-hacked-account?id=4196
2. No one has to hack your account to do this. The buyer can mark it as paid if they want to.
3. That only shows that Ebay found their account to be problematic and closed it.
4. Those are called Freight Forwarders and it is a legit service for international buyers to use. It does not mean there is a scam happening.
I would ask you a simple question, why didn't you verify the money was paid to you BEFORE shipping. It only takes a couple of clicks to find that out. Just check your Managed Payment account. That is a lot of money to just trust the payment arrived without verifying it. I ship nothing before verifying the money has arrived no matter how much the sale is worth.
I strongly recommend to set this policy for yourself and always verify you have the money before shipping.
Did you sell them on another account as the sales do not show on the account you are posting with?
I sincerely hope things improve for you and Ebay is able to help you track these people down, however it is more likely that you lost your product and the money too.

When the eBay app which takes information that emanates from PayPal
Nothing eminates from Paypal any more, all managed payments and shown in your payments tab under processing or available.
You neglected to wait for the notification from eBay to ship the item, so not sure what a law suit will accomplish but you may be able to go after the buyer.

If the app reads "paid, ship now" why exactly am I waiting for an email? This isnt 1991.

Are you effing serious? Someone can mark paid as a buyer and it reads "paid ship now" on my account? Do you not find that a bit problematic?

did you see this "Awaiting shipment" at the top of seller hub?
that is the place to look to see if its OK to ship
there have been a few sellers recently who are saying that the buyer can mark it as paid and then add a note.
I am unsure that is going to change the notation in awaiting shipment
I am sorry you are using the app as I am not sure how seller hub works in the app.
did you report this to trust and safety?
