Sold item with shipping and local pick up.

Hi! I listed and item with both options, buyer is local and she wanted to be delivered the same day so it will arrive before Christmas Eve, but she changed her mind to pick up so she can surely have it before Christmas. I’ve already received the PayPal payment including the shipping. How does EBay knows the item was picked up? How do I refund the shipping? What are the options in this case?

EBay recognizes positive feedback received from buyer as successful delivery in case of local pickup and shipping without tracking number. So ask her to leave you a feedback when you meet. If she expects you to refund her shipping it can be done as partial refund.

The linked policies only define proof of collection when buyers have selected local pickup during checkout, which generates a QR code. It doesn't apply here. Without knowing seller's location and availability it's difficult for a buyer to judge the convenience of pick up. I think most buyers would choose shipping during checkout especially when it's free or low cost, and later realize it makes more sense to pick up.

How expensive is the item?

Are you in Managed Payments or did it go through PayPal?

Is it something that's only good for Christmas time then might want to cause a stink about it later?

If you are REAL paranoid about it, I'd cancel (probs with buyer's addy), then have her rebuy it with the local pick up only option, solves all the issues regardless of the above answers.
